Brink... Can't get past "Please Wait" screen.

(Jonnie_Neutron) #1

I bought Brink a couple of days ago and after getting through all the time wasting “Steam” garbage and firing the game up (after D/L and installing the latest Nvidia drivers with OpenGL 3.1 support) the startup screen ran OK, I set up a couple of characters and went on to the Campaign/Challenges screen, selected the Start Mission button, got the black “Please Wait” screen with a frozen mouse pointer and a moving icon at the Top Right of the screen that I assume is the “Loading” Icon.
The game doesn’t start after waiting (for up to 30 minutes at one point), it doesn’t matter if I am connected to the internet or not… nothing happens at all. Windows Task Manager reckons Brink is still running but nothing is happening at all.
After paying top price for this game I am more than a little annoyed that after going through the ridiculous Steam install (when I have the DvD !!!) that the game won’t even run !!!

All sensible suggestions welcomed…

Cheers
JN

Make sure you are logged into Steam before you start the game. If you are on a router you may need to forward the ports 27015, 27016, & 8766.

Thanks for the advice, it is now working… and I have not done anything to it… Wish all problems were as easily solved.
Cheers again,

Yeah, I’ve got this problem too, only it’s not fixing itself. I’ve tried forwarding the ports, and it still doesn’t work.
Not quite sure how to fix it, thought it was a ridiculous load time but I finally gave up after I went to make a sandwich, ate it, and came back, only to find it still stuck on that screen.

Here are my system specs:
Dell Studio XPS 7100
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.80 GHz Processor
8.00 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
ATI Radeon HD 5670

It’s also brand new if that helps.
