Brink and Bad Reviews.

(GideonCube) #1

I don’t understand why Brink are getting such bad reviews, how do people not see how great this game is. The main problem I see with the people reviewing is that these people that are reviewing this game are not good at the game. They don’t see the world in a new “dimension” you can’t just look at this game and think just your average FPS, this is new. Anyone that is running around obstacles other than seeing “oh, maybe I can vault over this and then climb over this and get to a new place easier.” Then they go on to say that you just are going to run out and do all these objectives all by yourself. THIS GAME TAKES TEAMWORK… This is a very very team based game that is amazing. It is also very competitive and requires actual skill to know what you are doing. Its not confusing it only takes a little more brain power than normal “run and gun” games. Use your head and you can do so many things in this game and make these games turn in your favor. Don’t give it a bad review because you’re bad at it, its just not for you. I wish people could see this more often. I find it very frustrating what this game is getting such bad reviews for such a wonderful game. Good job guys, you succeed in going out from the normal FPS and made a game like no other and I think more people should think like that. I applaud you.

Unplayable lag for an online game is pretty much a bad thing chap, that and no real sp will lose marks. Then half the reviewers just didn’t seem to give it a chance only playing it for a few hours online.

Gameinfomer said they would wait a few days so their review might be more balanced.

Lag is not something they can fix for you, get a better internet provider and play on servers with lower than 100 ping (as in closer to where you live).

And the game is a multiplayer FPS. the singleplayer part just mimics the multiplayer but with bots. It’s been done before, worked very well and didn’t have a whine boat floating on a river of tears.

Because of two reasons imo, Brink doesnt have a “real” singleplayer content, its just multiplayer maps played offline aka l4d2 with bots that act strangely, But its sold as AAA with full content. And also because the initial xbox gliches where all reviewers played brink.

But i do love brink multiplayer one of the best games I played so far : )

Two of the most valid gameplay critiques I’ve read so far are:

SP is simply watered down MP with awful AI when it was supposed to be a wonderful seamless experience.
The MP maps aren’t set up to truly exploit SMART and the mechanic feels like a gimmick a lot of the time.

I can’t comment on this fully as I’m still waiting on my pre-order, but it does seem that people are more let down than raging for the most part which highlights valid disappointment over assumption based expectations being unfulfilled.

(crazyfoolish) #6

SMART was not supposed to be a game changer. Nor is it a gimmick. It is simply a better movement system.

(fearlessfox) #7

SMART has been lauded by SD from day one as a game defining mechanic, and, from what I’ve read/heard/seen, the maps aren’t set up to exploit this new movement system well enough so it feels like a tacked on gimmick.

Assure me I’m wrong, please. I’m still waiting on my pre-order and I’m hoping the videos I’ve seen haven’t fully shown the potential of the system and the reviewers and people offering feedback on it have simply not “got it”.

I want Brink to be amazing, and I want SMART to be everything that was promised.

(DaisZen) #8

But SD talked so much about SMART everywhere that most people thought it would be a game changer ! In my opinion, SD talked too much about some new things they made for the game, creating to much hype for it, and at the same time didn’t talk about SP being just MP with bots as much as they should have, creating disappointment in both ways.

why bad reviews? dont expect top quaility product on console with hardware almost a decade old.

(DarkangelUK) #10

I’ve seen plenty of gameplay streams (my copy arrives tomorrow), and what struck me most was that people didn’t have to walk round objects, they didn’t have to look for stairs to make it upper areas, they could slide under fences and mantle from one place to the next… this is already a game defining mechanic. While watching (or playing if you can), imagine the lengths you’d have go to through to get to those same areas if you were playing that map in another game.

(xTriXxy) #11

exactly. they are playing Brink like normal shooter game. Seach - zoom - fire. No smart at all.

(fearlessfox) #12

Hardware limitations have nothing to do with limitations of design and style and actual gameplay mechanics. Some of the best games in the world are still on decades old machines.

Top Quality =/= hyper realism.

True, but the problem I’ve been reading about is that while there are points that this kind of movement feels intuitive and smooth, there are many areas of the map that don’t make the most of the SMART system and offer only a few boxes to mental over here and there.

Of course, when I get my hands-on I’ll be able to tell for sure, but right now I’m not convinced it’s been implemented/integrated as well as they promised.

i dont want to start flame war. nothing against consoles… i have xbox 360, and i played halo reach, it got great score in reviews… but for me… this game is unplayable.

consoles are good for racing games, nothing serious, just relaxing gaming. or playing guitar hero

Well, yes, PCs will always have the competitive edge. My point was that console hardware and other limitations they contain are not limitations for intelligent and creative development.

(vexicat) #15

i’m playing this game like I would play TF2 or Killzone 3,But with the freedom of movement.

The only thing preventing me from fully enjoying this is the texture loading, and the online lag.

(hideinlight) #16

You just have to ask a simple question. Which is better value for money, Section 8 Prejudice or Brink?

(advocacy) #17

Brink is getting bad reviews because the lag renders the game unplayable, and the graphics are not that good. Deal with it.

(hailey) #19

Maybe if we had a map editor to create our own SMART challenge courses

or a game type where you have to jump around on stuff?

The problem is that it doesnt have much application in the actual game. Yeah you can climb over things, but in any other game it’s stuff you’d jump onto anyway, hardly revolutionizing FPS gameplay

(tokamak) #20

Of course it does. You just don’t know the maps yet.
