These shortcuts are probably like the extra walls you could blow up in ET. We have even seen some of these in Brink like the giant fan shutting down.

Shutting the fan down seemed to be a main objective so I doubt the defenders can take them back. My guess would be doors/hatches that can be hacked or blown up for side routes can be secured, assault ramps and bridges built by engies can be blown up by HE charges or satchels(hadn’t seen these listed before), there was a screenshot of a barricade that can be blown up…and most likely reconstructed.
Rank 2 = Levels 5-9. Rank 5 = Level 20. So, no, not exactly. I misread them at first too.
This is a nit-pick, but there is some carelessness with the language:
“While on defense…”
“While on offense…”
In my opinion, it would have been better if it had been worded more like… “While defending an… etc.” “While attacking an…etc. etc.”
This is a very small point, but the current wording emphasizes “Offense and Defense” “Red vs Blu” type thinking, rather than a “Security vs Resistance” type thinking. It diminishes the innovative story work SD have done to create the two sides, with different or even the same objectives played simultaneously.
Just a couple of days ago, when explaining the game to friends, I specifically stated that SD has done an amazing thing, this isn’t just Offense vs Defense (Attackers vs Defenders, Red vs Blu). Instead, simultaneously, both teams may have attack type objectives, so it would be wrong to say “We are defending this round.”
I hope that this is still the case, and that the Achievements are just unfortunately, poorly worded.
There’s a few bits of incorrectness in this thread:
The Heavy bodytype is available at level 5 and Light is available at level 7, and those can be switched in the front end for no cost.
I wonder if this has changed? in light of the achievements
Its likely just an icon as from what I understand you there are 5 ranks
1-4 = rank 1
5-9 = rank 2
10-14 rank 3
15- 19 - rank 4
20 rank 5.
Some skills are restricted at rank level is where i heard this.
Also makes sense with the achievement name. Time for a new character aka MAX LEVEL.
What, you guys missed the refernce to Operative’s satchel charge? I haven’t been paying a lot of attention lately but I haven’t seen that mentioned previously, did I just miss it or is this really new info?
Yeh when I first saw the thread, that was the first thing that got my attention.
Then I thought, it wouldn’t be an SD game without it.
Just reading Part II of the Incgamers interview:
…and better yet, deployable explosives I can put anywhere and remotely detonate at any time. I can blow individual ones for targeted strikes, or make all three of them go up at once to put the hurt on a lot of enemies simultaneously. Of course, I have to hide them well, because if I put them in plain sight, they can just shoot them from a distance.
Sounds very similar to the satchel charge… maybe its given to the soldier instead of the operative.
The biggest thing I noticed was the Tough As Nails achievement: “Win all storyline campaigns whilst playing Online Versus or Hard mode”.
That means that there are various difficulty levels for the bots in single player. Weren’t some of you concerned/postulating about that recently?

Yeh they have spoken about the various difficulty levels for the AI briefly.
They said that their production testers (ex top players) even found the Hard difficulty setting challenging. Also the E3 demo shows that difficulty setting in the menu. - Link

Yes, but from a tactical perspective, one side is attacking the primary objective in each round, and the other team is defending it. Otherwise there would be no conflict. In Container City, the Security is going into Resistance territory to get the glowing green stuff. At PAX East, the Resistance was attacking a Security Prison.
Within each battle there are offensive and defensive actions for both sides.
After looking at this list, it doesn’t seem like you’d actually have to try to get these acheivements. They’ll probably happen naturally.
Which somewhat is good, eh?
But the Challenge achievements will be… a Challenge
And the Audio Log thing probably wont come naturally either
