BRINK 2, what are your hopes for the future?.

(jRAD) #81

Excellent, we hope you will, too

(wolfnemesis75) #82

Cannot wait to find out what the new stuff is that’s been cooking in the oven!

(.Chris.) #83

Agreed with all the other stuff but in reality I can’t see stopwatch working very well in public, simply because people can and will come and go as they please during both rounds, you can end up with situations where players rage quit imbalancing the team numbers momentarily, get stacked teams as people sit as spectator till they can join their mate’s team and such. However hopefully with the built in clan system you mention more players will try out stopwatch as a result and keep returning to it, ‘forcing’ the mode may do the opposite.

(tangoliber) #84

People can come and go and rage quit in the middle of an Objective match too…I don’t see why a stopwatch mode makes the problem any worse. And even in casual games like CoD, don’t both teams switch sides in Search and Destroy modes?

Do you think that the problem is just the length of the match if you have two rounds? A lot of games I play have long match times… Natural Selection 2 can easily go over 30 mins per game…sometimes hours. Tribes: Ascend often goes to 30 minutes or more with overtime… Killzone 2 matches can go anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours. And nowadays people play MOBA games that last an hour, and if a single person drops the game is ruined because nobody else can rejoin… but people still seem to enjoy them.
If the match sizes are large…such as 8v8, then I feel that people coming and going and it isn’t a major issue. They are pub matches anyway and can’t be taken too seriously. In 4v4s or below it can be a pain, but matches of those sizes are usually for more experienced players… and best played on private servers in my opinion.

Team stacking will always happen I think unless you force random teams. (Offering no bonus xp for winning helps as well.)

You would solve a lot of problems by forcing Stopwatch mode… It means you don’t have to balance the maps 50/50 for offense and defense (an impossible task in my opinion)…You just have to make them offensively biased and fun.
I’m more worried about Objective mode causing new players to leave because they think the game has balance problems.

Anyway, interested to hear more of your thoughts.

Stopwatch for me is best played when you play both rounds with fixed teams as you would in a clan match. In public stopwatch, teams become distorted and such as the match progresses, you can be playing an awesome match then because someone leaves or joins everything is turned on its head, can be frustrating, I guess you’re right though, it’s only public and shouldn’t be taken too seriously, playing scrims and gathers and so would be a better solution for those like myself. I’ve just never enjoyed stopwatch public in W:ET or ET:QW.

I don’t think match time is that big of an issue for public, a 3 map campaign of ET:QW could last 1.5 hours, that’s 6 hours to play through all 4 campaigns which some folk did do. Personally I do prefer shorter rounds at about 10mins each way so about 20-25mins per map when playing stopwatch, not the 40-60 mins that could happen in ET:QW when you factor in ready up times and pauses, used to hate it when matches went to a decider map

Map balance is a tricky thing yeah, ET and ET:QW had a mixed bag with their maps going either way, sadly Brink just contained all defensively biased maps, some maps I don’t think I ever reached the end of on attack (offline doesn’t count), admittedly I only played for 30 hours but still that is quite bad in my opinion, I’d have had to have been pretty unlucky to have just been lumped with a crap team each time, the maps were clearly flawed. (escorting a bot near to the defense spawn?!)

Team stacking has a far greater detrimental impact on the enjoyment of a game, in stopwatch than it does in campaign mode.
In stopwatch mode theres no where to hide (skill wise) because the mode requires low player counts for it to work. In campaign mode or objective mode - teams can still beat stacks with sheer numbers at the objective. They can also spam their way through the objective, which is generally hard to do with stopwatch rules and low player numbers.

BRINK 2? But I thought we’re not done yet… O_o

There are so many things currently in the game ready to fix, improve and optimize. From the most obvious UI to the way they tell the story. For me, I’m willing to pay again just for those things, not for BRINK 2.

How come the community boyscotting Left 4 Dead 2? Well, you got a hint here. Some players don’t know and they never bother to. Some players do and they seen through the values, the differences, the leap and that makes them willing to pay another forty nine ninety nine. But of course some of don’t… So it really need to be very cautious for making the BRINK2. The population of Brink 1 is not saturated yet so it is not okay for making 2 but really trying to fix it and bring it back to life again.

Q1. What’s wrong with the way they tell the story?
A1-1. Brink is a multi-player driven game. There is no intermission and the moment for people to pause/stop and listen to the audio logs or watch cut scene. You just push on, clicking the next mission button after you finish the mission.

Q1-2. How does Left 4 Dead tell the story? They didn’t actually tell you the story because they know there is no gap between the each play like the one we can see in single-player game. So they leave the story part behind the scene, by the conversations between the characters, by the surrounding environments, by the imagination of player’s own.

Q2. What’s wrong with the UI?
A2-1. Way much text-based / simplified.
A2-2. For the main menu, I wish to see a miniature ark similar to the one currently on brinkthegame.com when I browsing the missions. And each factor could have their own presentation on it as well. Such as Ark security uses a high tech looking and clean console holographing the 3D map of the ark. While the Resistance in the other hand can use map that is made of scraps to roughly represent each mission site.

Misc-1. Brink is a multi-player driven game and that means ‘replayability’. And something that is not good to play/show over and over again is the cut scene and flat-combat levels.

Misc-2. The game needed so much variety but at the end it didn’t turn out too much of variety to approach with. There are some factors that limited the variety of the gameplay. Such as you can not switch between weights as you wish and need.

Beyond these all above, Brink is a great game. I really had a a good time with it

Bethesda is not paying for any more fixes. The game is done whether there is more to fix or not.
Since Bethesda most likely hold the license for the IP SD con’t even release the code for other people to fix. The game made some money and amused some people for a while, but its time has passed. Doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it still, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for the future.
I’ve just never enjoyed stopwatch public in W:ET or ET:QW.
Personally I had a lot of fun playing public stopwatch rounds in Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory,it was fun and I can’t complain about it.

Also the time set in Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory, I liked it very much, made it very competitive game mode, that’s why that game mode is been used by competitions.

Besides, Stopwatch game mode is entertaining and very balanced and definitely it should be in next SplashDamage’s game.

It is hard to believe that we will see BRINK 2, BRINK was big setback to SplashDamage and I don’t see why they should make consistent of BRINK.

We can’t speculate about BRINK 2, because nobody hasn’t said that it will come.

I would wait until SplashDamage tells us something about their next game.

But until that let’s enjoy ET series!

:stroggtapir:

(thevoice) #90

well they’ve announced a new game will come but i’m not sure it will be a brink 2
but if it is a new brink i’d like to see more snipers

(xAeroAtlas) #91

Aw that’s a shame. I personally loved Brink and I’ve recently been really getting into the ET games myself.

(Krooks44) #92

Brink is an amazing game wiyh SO MUCH potential.

This is what it needs for part 2.

  1. A fully realised story mode with a definitive end.

  2. I know that Brink is a team based objective game but if you want to keep people interested you have to have a team death match mode, with KD ratios. Now as for my argument as to why this mode absoluley fits the world of brink. Call it skirmish mode you have factions fighting for control of an area first team to 25 or 50 kills wins and drives back the losers. This will also give us the freedom to explore the maps and fight in a whole new way…
Heck even death match where its everyman for them selves would work you could call it traitor mode…

  3. Better match making lobby…

For me thats all i would like to see…

Brink 2 PLEASE… I want more of this amazing world that splash damage has created…

(Krooks44) #93

It is better in my opinion to leave brink as it is wich is far from perfect, but focus on making something better and fully realized…

(TheBrinkofGlory) #94

Personally I really enjoyed this game and Hope for a sequel. More Items and more customization would be very nice. To me the most important thing is absolutely COUCH CO-OP! This game would been accepted by loads more of console fans if it could support playing multi-player on the same screen, I know I have a huge group of friends that would’ve bought this game and suggested to more people if it had couch Co-Op. What is it with Devs thinking it’s ok to only have online multi-player? Couch Co-op is one of the things that helped the video game industry really pick up in the late 90’s early 2000’s, at least in my opinion

(rookie1) #95

Im not a console player at all but If I were a Dev I would apply your suggestion very serioustly …Nice comment mate !

(wolfnemesis75) #96

I agree. I have someone who’d have played with me and had a blast in co-op.

(hit) #97

not another brink. splash damage needs to approach their next game in a new way, because obviously brink wasn’t a success

I agree with most of that…

Brink is a fantastic game and may need small adjustments especially for new players when they begin to go into the game. Also, too bad is shut down the server for the statistics, it was a necessary thing if you want to get a lot of players. I hope it will come back with additional features and statistics for players, teams, weapons, kills, …

For new players is a major issue navigation through maps or orientation and positioning the objectives, maybe dewelopers could integrate detailed small map plan at the top corner of the screen like COD games where it would be easier to determine location of objectives and possible directions of movement.

I also have observations for the better marking command posts (health and supply), need to better emphasize particular team belonging, and their condition (upgraded or not?)…

(Psygnosis.) #99

Brink 2 would be just awesome… I loved this game, with my clan we had so much fun doing CW / PCW and also fun playing… Had a game or 2 in the last weeks, but lack of ppl =(

Bethesda caused the fail of Brink, because they pressed a lot Splash Damage to release the game soon (too soon…) only to get back the money for the advertisement… Otherwise the game should had more stuff for the competitive playing (like demo recording, etc etc) and many other things in general (like also more customizations)… The game was not ready to be releasd…

Thanks bethesda

Btw i really hope SD developes a sequel of Brink ! Should be nice to hear they doing a new Quake Wars or a Wolfenstein ET and screw up the casual cod players that want perks and killstreaks to get only easy frags… Those games are for hardcore gamers / old school players !

i think: Rather a pissed off fanbase than no fanbase at all.
