Bring back objective to usa server browser!!! Stopwatch servers empty quickly!

(KayDubz) #1

Seriously.

I’m finding I’m having less fun in servers because of the disjointed feel of being bounced into games with random people much more often now. Ranked is going to have different players each game. Casual Match making has random people each game.

The thing I liked about server browser was I could find a good OBJECTIVE server and then around 5 or 6 people would stick around through a few maps. Now that server browser is only Stopwatch for the USA region, most servers empty out after 1 map because people are drained from one long game. And games turn bad quickly and empty out if there is a stomp during the first half of the Stopwatch match.

I hate being forced to play 6 v 6 in Casual MM if I want to play Objective.

I find it hard to run into the regular players that I used to see every evening too.

And before anyone tells me to create parties for ranked or casual…most friends Ive made in this game haven’t stuck with Dirty Bomb.

BRING BACK OBJECTIVE USA SERVERS!

As much as I like(?) the new Dome, I can’t stand playing on it for two halves. Objective mode plz

Truth is, Objective is overall a better mode for casual play. That’s why having to choose between CMM and Stopwatch is so lame. CMM tends to be more competitive in the first place than the server browser, and the more casual server browser games are all stopwatch.

But stopwatch is way worse for casual play. Having the full time per side means that stomps can often take a full 20 minutes to resolve. And the server browser games are naturally going to be stompier than the games with matchmaking.

Also, objective is a better way to see more of the game. It’s more fun to play more maps, less fun to play one map for 30 minutes. If you just want to load in and play a few rounds, objective is the better way to go.

Losing objective servers sucks for me. Hopefully, CMM satisfies others.

If anything I find stopwatch fills quickly too, people leave when they get thrashed

i can stand if my team getting trashed by some level 200

but usually its just the other team having more level 20s more than mine
morale drops really fast and people start to quit after looking scoreboard.

Title edited.

Let’s no abuse caps lock for titles.

CMM just isn’t casual. All they did was copy/paste the Ranked system, but rather than Stopwatch, we have Obj. So it’s basically Ranked without rewards. Unfortunately, they probably won’t change it. A system similar to CoD’s would work better for DB (although I’m disgusted by CoD itself, it is still an industry leader and its matchmaking system works fairly well). No matter what is done, game’s aren’t going to be perfectly balanced all of the time. Hell, every game one team is gonna have the advantage in some way. CMM will not work in DB, ever. Not from a casual perspective anyways.

Exactly, Sploosh. In practice CMM plays more like ranked than the server browser. Lot’s of factors probably contribute to that, obviously including the skill filter. But the smaller 6v6 player count (closer to competitive) also contributes by pushing more responsibility on each player.

That makes it feel bad: it’s more intense and stressful than the server browser, but there’s no reward for taking on that additional stress and overcoming that greater challenge. There should be.

I could see CMM eventually being a strong addition to the ways to play Dirty Bomb. But it has to be rewarding. It needs to be at least twice as rewarding as server browser play, at least for the first few games per day or week.

In general, the devs biggest mistake is not making content rewarding enough. Ranked and CMM are more stressful forms of play, and all equal more stress feels bad IF there isn’t a corresponding reward. SD should embrace the more competitive nature of CMM and Ranked (people are usually playing to win in these modes) and consider a generous reward structure that especially rewards victory.

Possible redesign:

  1. Increase case drop rate in CMM 100%-150% above baseline FOR WINS.
  2. Have a powerful weekly quest for winning 5 CMM games. Like arsenal crate strong.
  3. Increase rewards for ranked 200% above baseline FOR WINS.
  4. Have a powerful weekly quest for completing 3-5 ranked games. Get toes in the water.

Do that, and your game has 3 modes, and all of them will be played. Right now, DB has stopwatch in the server browser, a CMM that is way more competitive than the stopwatch games, which feels weird, and a ranked mode with such meager rewards that many times of day you literally cannot get a remotely balanced game. The overall result is stopwatch for the most casual and least balanced content, which is where stopwatch is weakest, objective mode for the intense and balanced content, and stopwatch for a ranked mode, which would be strong except for the fact that the player pop is so low as to make ranked virtually unplayable.

Fix the rewards and this mess turns into a design. And then please give back our objective mode servers.

@woodchip The only downside to adding rewards is that we have to remember, this is supposed to be CASUAL matchmaking. Rewards shouldn’t need to be added to get people to play the casual side of a game!

It would probably help though as it did appear to help with Ranked, especially the Ranked skins. However, I’d like to see CASUAL aspects brought into CMM as a compromise if they want to keep it. Add 7v7 and 8v8 servers, let people choose their subregion (U.S. East or West), let people see the damn enemy team before the match starts, etc… I have doubt we’ll ever see any of this though. Anything I’d like to see implemented or altered never is. :frowning:

Lol, I have run into a completely opposite issue, facing the same teams over and over, leading to stomps.

To the subject of CMM design, the match-ups started off promisingly with randos facing randos, which seems to lead to more satisfying matches. However, parties started forming up and the stomps rose immensely. It used to be 8:10 decent games. Now it’s more like 4:10 with me constantly facing the same people in parties and being paired with party pairs that are lower skilled. If there is something to be improved, it is the parity between parties that needs to be fixed. For ranked and CMM, parties seem to confuse the algorithm and lead to more stacks than not.

Honestly I’ve been playing in AUS servers with 200 ping just to avoid CMM, and because I don’t really like stopwatch.
I hate it, it feels like mini ranked. I want my 8v8 team that can mess around. But instead, almost every CMM match I’ve been put into has ended with me spawn camping the other team. Like, isn’t this supposed to be more balanced than quick join, not less?

(znuund) #14

I have to say, CMM worked for me pretty well. Of course they said that they will work on it and bring an update pretty soon for that (queue times and so on).

But as OP stated, I would like to have the players being kept and the few dropping out should just be replaced. all the menus and waiting times are enough anyway, so if the algorithm found a match of 12 players then let them play until they don’t want anymore.

I had so many cool games which were very demanding and it felt much more like a challenge.
I like CMM and turtles.
