Bridge needs its own tutorial!

Bridge is one of those maps that you can lose very quickly on if your team doesn’t know what they’re doing (this goes for both defenders and attackers). The generator is the biggest issue I’ve seen. Either people don’t repair, defend, or defuse or, for attackers, they don’t rush and hold it when the defending team is all dead.

I see the many mistakes on Bridge from new and experienced players alike. To put it bluntly, they’re clueless sometimes- much more on Bridge than other maps.

There are some other aspects of Bridge which can make it a very frustrating map, especially for the experienced player like myself. So discuss what you think, whether a tutorial would help, or if other maps might benefit from a tutorial aimed at them.

for one map. no no no. better idea make dumby maps like the assault course with stand ins so you can explore the map. learn its kinks.plus most new players/f2ps dont even know what the objective is or even how to throw ammo or revive. maybe the blame should be on how bad the tutorial is at teaching.

I think if you take the time to do one map, you might as well do them all. I think the biggest thing with Bridge is people don’t realize that you can destroy the generator at the midway point with explosive/gun damage.

I always try and blow it up with damage rather than C4, but often I see my team throwing themselves at the obj attempting to plant in failure when they could just shoot it with an explosive or two to finish it off.

Same goes for the EV actually, I’ve seen people wait for their airstrike cool downs so they can finish off an EV that would probably only take a clip or two of shooting at it with your gun… or throw their airstrike moments before an engineer goes to repair the EV… so then they have to wait 40 seconds or so for the cool down to damage the EV.

In the end it all comes down to situational awareness, and a lot of people lack it completely.
That being said, I don’t think they should do a tutorial for each (or any) map.

If they make a tutorial, I think it should focus on game elements instead. Like…

Skyhammer:
You have an airstrike, the enemy EV has just been repaired… what should you do?

  1. Throw the airstrike into the air towards some enemies and hope you hit someone.
[] + You may hit enemies or the EV in the process.
    [
] - You might hit nothing, and have to wait 40 seconds for your ability cool down.
2. Stand in front of the EV and throw the marker directly at the front of the EV (while it is currently being pushed)

  • +You will do damage from the initial impact of your explosive to the EV and possibly anyone still near by it.
  • +The airstrike may go off and do significant/fatal damage to the EV.
  • + You may hit enemies in the process
  • - The EV may roll just out of range of the strike and take reduced/no damage at all from the airstrike.
  • - The EV may roll over your airstrike marker, covering it which prevents the airstrike from being called it in at all.
  1. Stand in front of the EV and throw the marker at the point where the EV will be by the time the strike goes off. (while it is currently being pushed)
  • + You may catch the EV rolling right into the range of your airstrike causing significant/fatal damage to the EV.
  • + You may hit enemies in the process
  • - You may risk having the enemy stop pushing the EV causing your airstrike to miss doing little/no damage to the EV.
  1. Throw the airstrike at a different angle so the marker covers the entire path the EV is traveling, regardless of it being pushed.
[] + You will hit the EV, most likely destroying it
    [
] + You may hit enemies in the process
There is clearly one winning answer here, but since many different things can be going on in game you may not always have the time to pick the best option, so you may have to settle for a different option. The benefit however is in knowing which option is best given those different situations.

This doesn’t even need to be a fully fleshed out in game tutorial, it could be a series of questions and pictures helping people to understand why they should, and shouldn’t do certain things.

This could be extended to cover many different roles and situations.

The new/modified bridge did require a bit of change for some of us “old timers” but I find the new map more fluid and faster paced.

I agree Bridge needs its own tutorial. I think ALL of the maps need their own tutorial along with a tutorial on how to play each class. Heck, give new players an elite case for successfully finishing the tutorial. I think you’ll agree with me Terminal needs some help to due to many people hiding out in the building defending a generator that is not nearly as important as the wall and forward spawn.

I like the idea Sploosh, I just cant think of any way to make people learn. Splash Damage makes some very fun and complex team-based games and if youre not willing to class up for the task at hand or switch up, you’re not going to win or enjoy the game as much as you could.

I can’t wait to see what would be in the next dev video. Oh, and watching shoe how to repeats those issues again and again

How about a mandatory in map mock battle tutorial for every merc the first time you play them(under a certain level only noobs need it) expecialy support mercs.
I dont know how many times i had to suicide or get killed because no ammo and the jack ass playing skyhamer/arty is running around clueless to the little ammo icons above our heads as well as doesnt understand the phrase i need ammo when you are standing in front of them

Also on a side note little icon over team medics/ammo mercswould be nice to signal there healing abilities are on a cool down so if a noob is doing his job we dont yell at them for nonreason

I think SD could do a video going over the importance of the secondaries across each map. The community itself though could also easily do the same thing. Members of the community could also make tutorials for each map themselves. I am honestly surprised people have not done that already.

Makenit mandatory for noobs to watch

No one’s made tutorials yet? Honestly, I’m surprised if no one hasn’t. I’m just so used to people making tutorials soon after release of games.

This thread is a salty one to say the least. I lose a lot of games because players just appear clueless. But sadly, tons of experienced players also fail at going for the win. Sometimes I can see they’re more obsessed with killing, but other times they have no awareness!

I would love to make tutorials i have them planed out in my head but due to lack of editing skils and software i cant

(The_N00Ba) #11

I honestly don’t know if any one has made any tutorials for each map. I just know it is not very likely since I have not heard or seen any one even talk about it.

I agree that some need to be done and kept updated. We just need to find people who can do it.

At the very least Mc1412013 you can do an outline of the shots you want and then pass that one to some one else. Usually these type of videos need a solid base like that first.
You could ask around and see if any one wants a project like that. They don’t have to like DB to do an editing job like that. could work

and yeah Sploosh I have noticed that too. some people are just like that I guess.
