Breakable brushes and light

(tman) #1

I made a map some time ago, it had a breakable floor and would block any light directed at it from shining beyond it till broken .The problem Im having with a map Im working on now is that light is shining through the breakable brush before it is broken.Any sugestions on how to block the light. The brush has no shader.

Thanks

Download the lightblock shader from my website: http://www.geocities.com/pazurmapping/shaders.htm

  1. Add to shaderlist.txt
  2. Put a brush inside the breakable
  3. Apply the lightblock shader
  4. Make it detail
  5. Compile
  6. Have fun

but if you block the light then after the destuctable goes no exra light will apear

unless your using a game with dynamic lighting

yes. exactly. i think that what you describe is not possible with the quake/rtcw/et engine. you would need to fake something with decals (turning them on/off)

or use a switchable light…

Do you mean a dlight or a Jedi Academy lightstyle light?

(Fracman) #7

use of dlights is restricted by the engine, as well as switched lightstyle lights.
In JA not more than 4 different lights can be applied at once to any surface.
Either you have only very few lights in your rooms and it will work,
or you’ll have to dump this idea…
