bounce and bouncescale

What is the difference between multiple bounce passes, and using a single pass with bouncescale?

I usually render 2 bounce passes for a clean light build, but the result doesn’t strike me as obvious …like , “hey, I’m a radiosity light tunnel, don’t I look cool!” I tried a one pass, 200% scale (bouncescale 2) render last night, and I’m much happpier with the result. I can actually see extra light subtley filling the shadows now! I think bouncescale 2 was a little too much light, so I’m going to try 1.5, with only one pass. This method saves me alot of time as well.

Actually, I’m so happy with last nigths render, that I’m going to relight most of my level to take account of the effect I got with bouncescale.

Can you post a scrrenshot or tow? I’m intersted in the bouce stuff, but don’t have time to test it myself.
Is the difference big?

I believe bounce simply specifies the number of bounces, it’s that simple. If you have bounce 1, light only bounces once. If you have bounce 8, it will bounce 8 times.

Not necessarily - I cant remember why (it was in the reference card somewhere), but - bounce X doesnt mean that bouncing will occur X times. X will be the max value alright, but there may be nothing left to bounce by the 5th pass (as happened to me when using -bounce 8… nothing left to bounce at the 5th pass)
