I’ve been an avid Unreal/Unreal Tournament fan for decades. One of the best things is that it supported enemy and teammate bots to play with and against. Why isn’t this a thing for Dirty Bomb? I can’t really see any negatives to it. No point, no credits, no mission progress for playing vs bots, it’s just a completely neutral practice ground. I can’t see any downside to that.
Bots - not the hacking kind
The downside is the development costs of creating it. AI is not an easy thing to program, and a fair one is even harder.
Like that one UT server which was abandoned for years and the bots got tired of fighting and the AI evolved into peace?
Splash Damage doesn’t do AI, the good guys were grabbed by id Software before they sucked on to Bethesda
Would be nice. I’d play the crap out of it to practice my aim, especially with sniping. A training room of any kind would be cool, even just moving targets rather than AI. Sort of like a shooting range.
I don’t think anyone would be against this. More so that SD must put time/effort into a huge amount of other more important things at the moment. For after all is done and working great then yea!
What if they just had a shooting range type of area? Not the tutorial, something a bit bigger and a little more varied. No need to make AI, just a place where someone can try out new loadout cards on basic targets, have broad walls to shoot at to observe recoil patterns, things like that.
Actual bots would be cool, obviously that’d be better, but more than anything I want an actually effective anti-cheat implemented. After that perhaps new maps. Then maybe develop bots. But in the very short term I think creating an offline shooting range would really be nice and easy to implement.
Bots/AI are pretty time-consuming to code, Unreal does offer a general framework but nothing more, and this game is (at least from my point of view) a sort of game where Bots would either be super underpowered or have to receive major gameplay-benefits (more health, aimbot) to make them have a chance. Both options are kinda meh imo.
I’ll never understand how people think playing vs. bots is going to be useful as “training” against players. I really don’t need or want a PvE mode in the game, especially with the amount of effort it’d take to add.
It’s not as effective against training against actual players because most bot movement is unlike human movement. It’s still good motor skill training though, and some bots actually have great dodging. Try loading up QL with a high skill level bot on 1000 hp and gun it down with LG, it’s actually harder than you’d think.
I’m pretty sure the training part of that is a really good idea, reckon it’d be easier to put in the game, too, since the game’s training consists mainly of aura and skyhammer briefings.
