Bots For Et is not a dream, but in few times a reality....

([RW]Tiger) #1

We are working on ET bots call BoBot. Actually we are working on RTCW SDK to make them. In a soon futur we will work on ET Bots.
As we are a french team and our site is in french we are looking for people who could translate our news in english so that all players could understand.
In this video you could see our job :
(Video is in english)
http://membres.lycos.fr/rwbobot/BobotDemo.avi

Our french site : http://www.clanrw.fr.st ,players could go in our forum and ask questions in english if they want, they will get a answer as soon as possible.
We are serious team with 5 coders working hard to make those bots a reallity.
I am the team leader, now ET players, know that ET bots ET are a reallity and not a dream.

(Lanz) #2

So… does that mean you’ve got the source code for ET?

Edit: Just watched the demo, impressive work.

(BXpress) #3

yes thats really impressive! but easy to fake, sry

(Irrelevant) #4

Can’t tell, myself. I appear to be lacking a codec. :disgust:

(rgoer) #5

I mean, that’s a cool idea and all, but BXPress is right: how can we know that this isn’t just a hoax?

([RW]Tiger) #6

Well, i write my site clan, my name and others details of my team, i am not so stupid to show you a fake or pther thing wrong else.

Be sure, this is a real video with a real bot, we will show you more of our work in futur days.

We have all we need to make ET bots.

(damocles) #7

So how does the bot find it’s way around? Is it path finding using path node entites or another method? How much work is involved in converting a map for but use?

([RW]Tiger) #8

Bots find their way because of a Network of neurons, wich allow bots to learn their way.

We use the system of bot FUSION to generate the ways points.

how much work: for the moment very little, but more the bot will be complex plus that will be long.

I hope i give you answer and the right answer to what you asked me.
As i am not always on this forum, during the week, i ask you to ask me your questions on our forum please, easy for us to answer.

(Irrelevant) #9

Ooh, neural nets.

In my experience they tend to be a bit processor hungry and slow-learning, though. :expressionless:

I look forward to seeing more of these AIs.

([rD]MrPink) #10

Wouldn’t one of the Q3 bots out there work in ET?
As for translating, it doesn’t do a perfect job, but try translating the web pages using http://www.systranbox.com/ It actually has the option to put in your sites URL and it will translate that page. You could copy that text and use it on your English version.

([RW]Tiger) #11

No Q3 bots work in ET.

And thanks very much for the link to translate.

When bots will be done, we will have a lot of generations done too. In fact, we keep the best bots of each generation, and then we have the best bots. The worst bots are eliminated.

At this time we are working on a alpha to see what they did, they could move, shoot but will not do objectivs.
Each class, will have its own AI, so that class will be really good, so we are actually working on the soldier class and then, after each version of bots we will add a new class or only improve a past class.

Hi, i’m the programmer of the neural net and the genetic algorithm of the BoBots.

BoBot is an experimental bot. We don’t promise you it will be running very fast on your computer. That’s not our objective. We just want to make a good AI, even if you need to buy the last Pentium 12 to run it  But don’t be so anxious, with 32 bots on my Athlon 1800+, the game is very smooth.

Slow learning ? Yes, it takes time, but as you can see, the neural net have learned some good things

“how can we know that this isn’t just a hoax?”

For the moment, it’s impossible to prove you it isn’t a fake. That’s just a matter of trust. Sorry :bored:

(rgoer) #13

It’s all good–I hope you can understand the skepticism. If this pans out, though, you have my congratulations. This would be very cool, indeed.

(heeen) #14

just relase a small mod to try it out.

(damocles) #15

I don’t think the hard part of botting ET is the movement, nor it is the objective completion - both of those are relatively straigthforward in terms of AI.

The problem you will have is that the bots need to be coordinated to be any good. If you play UT2k3 in team mode, you can see the somewhat woeful attempt they made there. The bots just follow each other in some kind of “strength in numbers” ploy. That won’t work for ET. In many times in ET, the game isn’t won by the large group of people, it is won by the few that have the sense to play more imaginitively either alone or in pairs. A medic and one other specilist class can turn the tide of a battle quite easily if they are both good andplay well together. Hell, I once played on a pub match where me and one medic managed to fight our way from the allied mid spawen on fuel dump all the way through the front gates, to the west side, dynamited the fence and then the fuel dump simply because he was a good enough medic to support me instead of going rambo.

It’d be extremely difficult to program any kind of true “supporting” tactics in ET that don’t involve bots huddling together for safety. And because often there is more than one objective to consider and more than one way to them, one large team won’t work. Mutliple teams will always win over one large team. On single objective maps like battery, the bots won’t need much independant tactical thought, but on multiple route maps like fuel dump things get tricky. Bots do tend to take the shortest path to any given objective making them predictable. Add into this the need to maintain a command post (or destroy enemy ones) and things can get very complicated very quickly.

I’m not saying this can’t be done, I’m saying this is the make or break factor of the bots and should be taken extremely seriously.

(Lanz) #16

Moving together as a group is one of the key factors in clan wars, if you break up you wont be able to accomplish the objectives just because they are too well protected for one or two man to sneak in and do anything. Sneaking only works on pubs, and with some luck sometimes in clan wars but usually not. So your way of seeing it works on pubs but definitely not in clan wars against an equal or stronger opponent.

(flashkillaman) #17

sneakin in the base is easier alone because its unreal to have an allied engineer following you and dont shoot you

([RW]Tiger) #18

Well it will be hard to make bots as good as humans, but sometimes, Bots are more team than some players on the net but, at this time of developpment, our first work is to make them move so humans players wont be able to guess their way.

As i said, each class of bots will ghave its own IA, this IA will be improve days by days. In fact, we will work to make bots playing together, and reacting to others bots/players to messages. We will do our best to make them as human as possible, and it will be hard and will need a lot of work, at our first beta, we want to have one class completed and full working and may be another class making.

How we make them exactly will be thinking and completing during months of Bots devellopement, at this time we are at the beginning.
I hope i bring you some details about what we want to do. To finish, i want to say that Bots play sometimes better than others players. As we are not english, please, when you ask questions or want to knwo details, say that clrearly. Thanks.

[RW]Tiger.

You have my utmost respect.
Keep trying and good luck.
at least you are giving it a try, and hopefully you will succeed.
good on you.

(BXpress) #20

well, tiger, when do you think is the bobot @ final?
