Both my characters were deleted, lost ~10.5 hours of progress

Well, I wanted to stream for some friends. So I : Went to Brink.exe, right clicked, went to properties, compatibility, then I checked ‘disable visual themes’ ‘disable desktop composition’ and ‘Run this program as an administrator’. When I loaded it back up, I lost all my characters and it acted like I never played Brink before (The intro started showing and whatnot). I tried changing it back to what it was before, but it didn’t work. 12 hours down the drain I guess.

Same thing happened to my friend when he went into the Brink config in notepad and changed r_shadows to 0. Seems like if you change anything in your brink folders, you’ll lose all your characters.

That’s really weird, I thought characters were stored server side? I played on my laptop and then on my desktop and the character progress from my laptop transfered over.

Say, did you try unchecking the “Run as administrator” flag in the compatibility settings to see if you get your characters back?

I have a hunch that the “Run as administrator” settings might be messing with the path to local user data.

EDIT: As for your friend, could he open Windows Explorer again and go to the folder where he changed something? Check if the menu bar has a button “Compatibility files” and let him click it. If he jumps to another folder, that’s Windows Vista / 7 being “helpful”. If that is the case just say so and I might come up with a solution - I had to help other people with a similar problem before.

Yes I did, I said I reverted everything to what it was. I haven’t played brink since I’m pissed off that I lost all my characters.

I lost all my haracters aswell. Didn’t do anything in configs / properties. Just played the game - came back this morning and they were gone.

I can confirm that this bug still exists post-patch. Just lost all my guys & progress.

You’re absolutely correct. This has now happened twice - once pre-patch, once post-patch. My last character was level 13 or 14, too, so now I have to go all the way back through every challenge and most campaign missions just to regain my status. I’m so frustrated now, I’m tempted to just uninstall the game and wait for a patch to arrive that corrects this problem. There’s absolutely no excuse to have characters deleted so frequently!

Man I’m mad (to put it lightly) new patch comes out on Sat 13/05/11 and I play the game on Sun 14th. Log in change my resoloution and texture level. The next time I logged back in game all my charcters are gone… 9 hours plus down the drain. What good is free DLC if you gona keep wiping my toons :frowning:

Last patch didn’t help, I just lost my character as well, during a game crash (not even before reaching the main menu, I was in game)… Reconnected right after crash… My char was nowhere…
