Hi,

Hi,

@Lanz:
I haven’t got much experience in programming C.
I haven’t been in touch with the source of a Q3 game before.
In my first attempts in modding I got a little bit lost in the source.
So I thought it would be good to have some advice.
And for this reason I bought this book.
To get a little bit in touch of the source.
It’s to early to make a final statement.
Because I’m only at chapter 3.
But may be there are some people out there who are willing to mod but don’t know how to start.
And everyone can make up their minds / make the decision if this book may be helpful or not.
As you have done.
Yes I know what you mean, I just used find in files a lot to learn more about the source and just concentrated on the thing I wanted to change. I never really had the use for it. I’m not saying that it’s anything wrong with learning from a book like that, just that the source in itself can teach you a lot and probably even more.
But as you said, it’s up to everyone to make up their minds if the book is helpfull or not.
I think the book would be useful…but I haven’t read it (don’t have the money right now) and can’t seem to find it online
So what exactly does it cover?
I got this book sometime last year… Its a pretty good introduction to modding quake 3 and if your a beginner it shows you how to get started. The stuff in the book is all quake 3 related and none of the code examples are relevant to ET, but it will give you transferable skills in quake 3 engine based game modding.
