Bomb defuse line of sight

(Litego) #1

So in this new update you need line of sight to the bomb in order to see the defuse bar. I personally don’t think this is a good thing in pubs. Comp? Maybe. But not in pubs. What do you guys think?

(watsyurdeal) #2

I think it forces people to watch the bomb rather than proceed to spawn camp or leave the bomb alone. But I also think it works well on offense with the EV since people are now forced to actually be looking at said EV instead of being way far back or something else.

I think it’s a good change, it forces people to actually defend the bomb, or the ev, or whatever, instead of goofing around.

(Litego) #3

I don’t think you should have to look at the actual bomb, it’s not like you do that in comp either. In comp people are holding different angles and you know if someone gets through (at least before this update). In pubs no one is holding shit, so now you do actually have to just babysit the bomb, which sucks.

(Ardez1) #4

Going to agree with @Watsyurdeal on this one. I think it definitely puts more focus on the objective, which is the point of the game…

(watsyurdeal) #5

It’s no different than what defense has to do, they have to babysit objectives. That or someone can come plant and get it done.

The problems largely stem from two key factors, map design choices and number of players.

Dome and Dockyard are the only maps in my mind that I can recall that are actually good for a large number of players, the rest are just ass. It’s like a bunch of people stuffed into a bath room.

I’m gonna miss standing on the other side of the map and calling in Arty strikes. :frowning:

(Jostabeere) #7

The only thing that is really bugging me is the fact even glass blocks the LoS for this function. For examplethe turret-balcony on Terminal.

today I played few matches and I was wondering… the progress bar on the EV was not visible, however the progress bar on top of the screen, indicating EV’s health was showing…

the question is…is the top one updated only when somebody is actually watching the EV ? It felt like it wasn’t.

The top one is the EV’s progress towards the end of its route.

This a good thing imo, I know a lot of the better comp players asked for this. It adds a tactical depth to the game since you need to use your ingame knowledge to know if someone is defusing /repairing instead of a simple glance at the objective. It also allows ninja defuses/repairs, which is nice.

Despite being competitive oriented change, I think pubs should to certain extent have same mechanics as comp (Friendly Fire is arguable). For me this is good change and natural to have it on both all enviroments altogether. Pub setting is the springboard for more organized settings for many after all, so it should follow include as similar mechanics as balance-wise possible.

Dat glass issue should be fixed though. I thought I broke my game or something when it first occured to me.

(FireWorks) #12

and still it plays out bad and unfunny.

(AlphaUT) #13

This change increased the skill level that requires to win, I would say I like it.

(Matuno) #14

Can’t really enforce two different policies on pub/competitive either. It’s a good change, it doesn’t work well in my favour, but it’s good.

(DarkMatterMatt) #15

damn… can’t double sticky the wall next to the bomb, then hide round the corner and detonate it when they’re defusing anymore

yes, when it’s repaired after the first stage…but before that, it shows the progress of to what extent is being repaired.

(HunterAssassin5) #17

yes you can. if you’re close enough, you can still hear the defuse sound

(kibloy) #18

Works for friendly fire, I don’t see why this should be different

(opicr0n) #19

Best change ever to be honest! Especially on pubs, force people to learn how to pay attention to objective.

(torsoreaper) #20

I have to say I was one of the people that would use the defuse exploit all the time. Go hide somewhere, as soon as you see the meter show up, pop out and kill them. Now you at least have to listen for the sound.
