Black Models (I searched, I promise)

(psychosanity) #1

OK, I did a search for the problem and found lots of threads but after an hour reading them, none seem to apply. Gib me if Im wrong…

I can put certain models (for instance models/electronics/phone.md3) in may map all day long, no problem…but certain models come out black…specifically models/multiplayer/landmine/landmine.md3.

My searches found answers like “change the lightgrid” (no matter where I put the mine, its black…even if I substitute it for the phone…which is fine) and “changing the shaders” (we all know the landmine is fine the way it is, it isnt black when it’s in my hand…) or “make it a misc_gamemodel” (this makes it not show up at all)…

The model looks fine in Radiant, of course.

Again, I apologize for posting such a commonly asked question, but it really seems (to me) that this is a different thing…feel free to harrass me if I have missed something, I really do always search before posting! I promise!

I can post screenies if that’ll help

certain models come out black

Is the landmine the only model that is giving you problems, or are there other models having the same problem?

Are the models Pitch Black, so you can’t see any details on them, or are they just not receiving any light?

(psychosanity) #3

wow, youre quick
theyre pitch black (lightjuniors didnt help…other models look fine)

and Ive tried two from that folder (right in the pak0…models/multiplayer, both come out black in game, fine in Radiant)…Ill post some shots in a minute…

well, I would post some shots, but I guess I don’t know how to do that either…I am clearly an idiot. Do I need webspace to post screenies here?

or “make it a misc_gamemodel” (this makes it not show up at all)

misc_gamemodels need at least one key / value pair besides the usual stuff to show up in game… try “angle” or “targetname”

Oh my, I swear it is the most ridiculous sounding answers that always end up working. I put an angle in a viola! Looks great! Thank you!

Amazing that in all the posts I searched, no one ever said this…and it would have solved many peoples problems who apparently finally just gave up. Poor bastards.

Thanks again!

I m having a similiar problem, but with the player-models. in some spaces they are pitch black, which are only like 64 or 128 grid broad, and there are some other areas which are bigger.
Light Juniors didnt help at all (not at standard light intensity that is = 300 i think).

Also Lightgrid size didnt help, and i surely cant apply angles on them lol. Any suggestions maybe?
(And, yea, I know there are 2-3 threads on that in here but they didnt help me…)
