BF:2142 PR guy talks ET:QW!

(Shanks) #41

The best part of that video was the godfather music in the background.

Yeah, a muzzle flash that takes up 3/4 of the screen is a great way to attract people. What next? Planes that can’t fly?

I can’t believe people are actually anticipating this one…

(Joe999) #42

minor correction: BF2142 WILL come out. they’re gonna release it no matter whether it’s finished or not. this is what i’ve learned from EA:

  • if the game isn’t finished in time, then they’ll cut out (for customer important) features
  • if the game is buggy (it most certainly will be), then they’ll get it out anyway and provide patches for what doesn’t work at release
  • next BF clone will be released next year around october/november

last thing is an interesting marketing strategy because they make use of their base customer group like they do with the sports series. besides this is the only way a persistent ranking system makes sense: they expect people to play the game for only a few months. this is their kind of a yearly game subscription. and that’s what i hate about them: their games are only about money, their games have neither heart nor soul.

(Hansel) #43

Persistent rankings are retarded in MP games, and so is this whole ranked server system in BF2. There is so many problems in this system, its actually fun to see them trying to catch people who boost their stats with cheats and exploits, like those stats really mean so much.

Battlefield series is only money making machine for EA, whereas ID/Activision really seem to understand the importance of the community surrouding their games. Thats the main difference. EA wants me to buy BF2, Expansion pack, Booster packs, rent a server from them, and then buy all these games again in form of new Battlefield game while the old one is still in open beta mode.

(kamikazee) #44

Agreed. I only tried BF2 out in SP mode, and even then you could notice that things were wrong. Bots might not be the ideal subject to prove something, but it allows to show the weapon accuracies, the flag capturing, etc as a rather brief introduction to the gameplay.

After playing it for 4 rounds, I just couldn’t get it how they could throw all those features at a game without blending it. Everything is there, but it doesn’t fit. Removed it from my HD there, no point in MP if a bot-simulated MP seems awkward.
I don’t know if they want to ass so much players by releasing it like it is, or haven’t they got “the touch”? Point remains that they want to make as much money as possible, otherwise they wouldn’t try to make a game every 6 months.

Possible ET:QW ad:
“Still playing in a sandbox? Play ET:QW and get some real toys”

(R0guy) #45

To be fair, you could still play 64player matches on 32/16player maps, wether you consider BF2’s game mechanics “adapted” to those sorts of games or not is still up for debate. :stuck_out_tongue:

Wich reminds me, and sorry if this question has been asked before, but are there any plans about being able to alter Map sizes, vehicle spawns etc depending on the number of people through the server settings in ET:QW? For balance and stuff?

Rubbish ! :lookaround:

What’s the most hilarious scene you encountered in testing the game(BF:2142) so far?

Some of the more hilarious things are actually bugs or things you did not think about (…)

(Joe999) #46

lol, in that case give me a good explanation for EA’s xbox360 disaster and why everbody’s bashing EA recently :moo:

(Shanks) #47

Does BF2142 have support for the PhysX chip?

Dice are always looking into ways of making more compelling games, the PhysX chip is obviously on our radar as are other hardware add ins that could increase the experience. Being a MP game predominately however, we need to keep the experiences as similar as possible and we need to be really careful not introducing advantages or disadvantages with new technologies. For 2142 we are not planning this kind of support.

lol, maybe they should be developing for the consoles…at least then they’d receive rave reviews.

(Nail) #48

from same interview

We are also going to throw out an open beta in the beginning of August

(Nishua) #49

It’s nice to come to a forum an hear bash EA for what they really are.

(Joe999) #50

i don’t care what a PR guy says, but i do care what gamers say who played the game at the E3:

Even while dying constantly we loved that the game felt fresher than Electronic Arts’ take on the “semi-futuristic” online team play genre that was running across the hall. The big difference in vehicles and weapons translates to two sides that are hard to confuse, which made picking out enemies amongst battling squads easy. Less time spent wondering if you’re shooting at the right guy equals more fun in our book.

Bf2142= 8vs8 or 10vs10
Quakewars= 6vs6

If a game wants to be a big clangame it has to be playable at lans, and 6vs6 is.

Quakewars is allready a better clangame. And the modscene for ET is just so much better than the modscene in BF, if you see it from a clanplayers perspective. ETpro was just so fucking great, ETtv++ Havent seen anything like that in bf.

And anyways, some bf clans may play 2142, but after 2 weeks they will find all the bugs and crap from betafield2 and they will quit 2142. Remember, each patch adds new bugs, a bf game cant be played for more then a year anymore, after that its just to many bugs.

(Redh3lix) #57

Disagree, the mod scene for the BF series is very large btw.

I dont understand why people see BF2142 as a “threat” to ET:QW. I used to only EVER play ET and soon enough I found myself bored with it like many other people are beginning to, so moved over to another game to “fill in” the time before ET:QW. Battlefield 2 is in fact FUN to play as will BF2142 be FUN to play, although EA have made their intentions clear by NOT accomodating the competitive scene. It even “felt” like they begrudginly added the option to have a clan tag prefix in your name. In summary, BF2 and BF2142 will be good games to play, but nowhere near the calibre of ET:QW. Simple imo.

(Joe999) #58

it isn’t because it’s vice versa. et playaz don’t care about bf because bf has crap gameplay. comparing bf to et or qw is blasphemy, i don’t see anything that those games have in common gameplay-wise. maybe you could as well compare bf to cs or pacman because both are computer games. the only game you can compare qw is et. both are unique

yeah, of course, and in case you did miss the e3 gameplay vidz of bf2142 above, here they are again:

http://www.vitivi.tv/show_video.php?var=1378;wmv;0;0;224;1;0

this looks like so much <insert-dirty-word-here>… i had to watch it twice because i couldn’t believe that their new game is in the same way boring like hell like the others are :uhoh:

update: tried to find one vid in google that’s fun or at least interesting, didn’t find one. here’s a new one for example:

booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring.

(MuffinMan) #59

rtcw and et imho have always been better because:

  • fast paced
  • small maps (in comparison)
  • one guy really can make a difference (ok not for 64 player servers but thats for noobs anyway)
  • you’re almost never really helpless against some special weapon - you sometimes can’t run from a panzerfaust but at least you don’t encounter some tank that is absolutely unbeatable
  • players who are not that good at shooting don’t get frustrated running into pro’s but actually can help while staying behind (medics / fieldops)
  • you don’t have to run for half an hour to find out that you just missed the action and you have to run another half an hour / or camp for a vehicle

et:qw seems to have not that giant maps as battlefield, at least the screens I saw up to now didn’t look too huge, big, but with cover - this makes me hope that vehicles are really only supplementary to infantry, if all the rest stays more or less the same - with better graphics - hell I’ll be in again for the next years

oh and btw: I need a playable demo! I’m playing cs:source to fill the waiting but I’m sort of desperate already!

(Killgarr) #60

it pretty much stood a guy behind you yelling to you what you needed to do. And that is almost necessary because there is a really steep learning curve in it.

This was true (i played the E3 demo) ,but…you have to remember we were thrown in the game with no manual, no time to read over the controlls or anything. To me the special skills each class has akes the game so much better. Give em 10 mins with a manual and anybody will be fine.
