Better Server Browser Needed!

(wazups2x) #1

The server browser is terrible.

What needs fixing:

[ul]
[li]Filter options. Ping, population, map, location, password, etc… [/li][li]Performance is horrid, everything slows down when you search.[/li][li]Can’t join a server while it’s refreshing.[/li][li]Refresh button doesn’t work.[/li][/ul]

Other major problems with the game:

[ul]
[li]Ping number in match! We’re not console gamers, we like numbers not colored bars.[/li][li]Option to change FOV.[/li][li]Performance is bad.[/li][li]Aim/movement feels sluggish.[/li][li]AMD 4*** series cards experiences very ugly GRID like look everywhere.[/li][/ul]

Sadly, this feels like a console port. I mean there’s so many things they got wrong with this game that they already had right with ET:QW. I really hope Splash Damage patches all of this stuff.

(madness) #2

why are people having so much trouble finding the filter options ?

(indirect) #3

Steam Server browser…

And there are favorites… and filters?

(IceBrazuca) #4

The one filter I want is to separate game modes so I can search for Free Play only and not Campaign ones.

(wazups2x) #5

Alright, that’s good, didn’t notice the favorites before. Kind of in a weird place.

(Busterking) #6

Alt-Ctrl_tilde keys, type in console:

g_fov 100 (or whatever number you want)

Must be done on every Brink restart.

(DarkangelUK) #7

Wasn’t it recently changed to ui_fov so that the fov change happens across the board? (normal, sliding, sprinting etc.)

(indirect) #8

No, that’s when the game is patched.

(chadjordan) #9

When are you guys gonna fix the lag ?

(wazups2x) #10

Well hopefully it’s patched soon.

Bump for horrible 10 frame server browsers.
You can filter by ping by clicking on the little icon in the ping section of the table and imputing the largest value you want to search for.

I only have 5 fps in the browser :stroggbanana:.

As soon as it is closed the fps rises to 150+ again. So there seems to be something wrong with the overlay, since your character is fading in the background and then it becomes a slideshow.

This topic should really be titled: “What features are in the server browser?” because what SD has given us is actually quite good and they were merely overlooked. Hey, that’s what forums and a community are for :D.

The filters in the server browser even search for partial text matches, for those that are curious. I actually love this server browser compared to many other recent titles, but I also don’t seem to have the frame drop problems mentioned here… I’m solid FPS all around I think.

As for the UI being locked while it’s updating, that’s been the case for every id-based server browser I can think of for the last decade, yet updates only take, what, 5-10 seconds?.. and you can stop it mid-update at any time if you see a favorite pop up (they get polled first, too, I think).

(mestido) #14

Is that possible to open steam server browser while in game>?

(dommafia) #15

You CAN, click the little box next to “game type”

Features needed to match the Steam Server Browser and ET:QW

[ul]
[li]viewing full servers
[/li][li]queuing
[/li][/ul]

As Fastred mentioned in another thread, there’s a workaround for the ~2-3fps server browser.

Here’s what I did:

After some research I discovered that it’s the “serverbrowser_hist.vdf” that stores your HOMEFRONT favorites (makes sense). I located this file on my system by doing a search for it in my Steam folder. For me the “serverbrowser_hist.vdf” file was located in the “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\8326979\7\remote” directory. It will not be in the same directory for all users so that’s why a simple file search is recommended. I then made a backup copy (with a different name) of this file and deleted the original.

Is there a way to make it not show empty servers?
what about bots?

I tried the players filter but I have no idea how it works.
