Lots of people either won’t buy it, or will wait til it’s on sale.
Awesome work Bethesda. Your greed is costing you.

Isn’t this MAHOOOOSIVELY cheap for Australia LyndonL? http://www.ozgameshop.com/pc-games/brink-game-pc
Yeah that’s brilliant. That’s what someone in the comments was talking about. It’s just crap that BethSoft ups the price on Steam. And tbh Steam has a ridiculously larger footprint than ozgameshop.com, so a lot of Aussie customers will be looking on Steam, and EB (Au ver of GameStop) and Game which are all charging $90 odd dollars (for PC). As a new IP I know a lot of people will be hesitant to buy at that price.
Yeah that’s totally it. It has nothing to do with making matching the pricepoint in brick and mortar establishments in order to profit.
It’s my understanding that it isn’t the publisher that is at fault for the price hike. I’ll try to find a link from the steam forums but there was talk about it being because there is only a single distributor and it is because of them(complaining about the cheaper digital pricing) that the price jumped.
Don’t forget to consider any VAT or sales tax built into those price quotes. It is very hard to compare prices unless you also include taxes, shipping, etc. Sweden’s VAT is 28% IIRC…
Nevertheless, I’ll never understand the valuation of currencies. Why does $5 get a massage in Thailand that would cost you $100 here? Why is gas in Europe $10 a gallon when they are closer to the Middle East? It never makes sense to me. Why is a train ticket in Europe reasonably priced when a train ticket here is laughably expensive? I think there are about a zillion factors that influence prices, but I think the most important one is the accepted price for a thing in your market. If games routinely sell for $90 in your country, then that is probably the price point that the publisher is going to ask in your market…and fairness has nothing to do with it…
PS - The publisher sells the game. Moaning about the price to SD is futile. They are the developer, not the marketer…
Government taxes and subsidies probably account for the most dramatic differences. I believe that most oil and oil-based derivatives in Europe come from Russia, but I could be mistaking natural gas for oil.

This is the part that annoys me. Up until about a year ago all Steam prices WERE $45-50 - on par with US prices. So it wasn’t an accepted thing. They’ve only just started raping us.
And I originally started this thread 'cause I was annoyed. But I also know that Bethesda people view this forum, so they will see it.
I brought it back up since the comments in the article I posted yesterday were topical. The new video came out and many people were posting that they weren’t going to buy it because of the Steam price (A lot of people buy games on Steam in Aus because there used to be large savings to be had - and still are during their sale periods).
“But I also know that Bethesda people view this forum, so they will see it.”
they don’t care, what choices do you have ?
none, right ?
I doubt Bethesda cares much about Brink, they don’t own the title
