BTW I sincerely take offence to the “go pies” tag in this thread. Every time someone cheers for the magpies someone loses another tooth (Generally the bogan barracking for the pies).
Bethesda Pirates
I really hate how the most ridiculous sh-- like military spending becomes a jobs debate in the US.
[QUOTE=Apples;271467]Maybe its time to stop buying overpriced games? If more people voted with their wallets there would be some changes I think (oh yes I’m an optimist), but unfortunately it wont happen (or I’m a pesimist… dont know really! please help!)
That sucks big time indeed, but if they charge that much, just dont buy the game, plain and simple.

So basically Australians should stop playing video games… We pay those prices because we have no other choice.
do you have in australia “some kind” of strict antipiracy law? maybe u do ,and this law is that strict, that game publishers can push up game prizes to maximum. they know u have to buy game anyway (or torrent and jail? or high fine?)…
i think in countries where is no copyright or antipiracy law followed or implemented, game prizes are set to minimum at least someone will buy original game.

The main point here is that it was $50 on Steam for SEVEN MONTHS. If this was only an introductory price tag they should have mentioned that to get the pre-orders in. If I had to pay the $90 well I’d have given passed on Brink. In fact I was going to wait, I only bought it when I did because I have to use PayPal and there was a sale on, but PayPal takes a long time to work and I ended up missing the sale so I had the “spare” cash.
If anything it’s a lot weaker than say the US. If someone downloads movies and they get busted for example, the person’s ISP gets an email and the ISP forward the email to the person who was busted without actually really saying anything.
I had a friend who once got a warning from his ISP and his internet connection got capped for a week.
That was severe punishment
yes and no.
because its mean more like “differently distributed employement strategy”, rather than “rise unemployment rate”.
to be exact, less low-life, low-tech, dumb salespersonell in hard software shops, and more more sohpisticated and more high-skilled HR assets in IT&e/www-shopping&delivery divisions.
thats why example of Runic game or Impulse or similar sales channels is SO important.
Steam ? little too, but they focused around old business-models alot, but less than [alienating]counterparts from GFWL/XBL/Windows marketplace. and that good. in both cases. for Steam inhabitants[in both meanings].
Basicaly yeah, you should stop buying overpriced stuffs and maybe companies will stop bending you over… I know its hard to hear but well, I remember one day some peasans took forks and voted with their lives to gain more rights… I think you can stop videogames and make petitions for a while in order to gain more rights, its not like your life will suddenly end because you couldnt play 5 hours this or this day…
If you like being fked its not really my problem, but dont complain in the meantime or its completely futile… (Sorry in advance for this harsh comment, but its the best way I have to express my feelings as its the clearest expression of what I think)
Good luck in your fight! make a petition and I will gladly sign it if you are truely concerned about this, advertise your case in videogames magazines etc etc, sitting here doing nothing but complaining wont lead you nowhere.
Peace

Or, to put it in a more economic sort of way; you need to decide if a game is really worth that much money to you. Be more critical about the games you guy, check reviews, see how long the campaign is, see if its replayable.
Being more critical of the games you purchase would really kill the sales of games that are priced higher than they should be. But then again, it may also lead people into finding out that games really are worth that much to them.
Is a game that you play for 4-5 hours worth $100? Not to me, that’s over $20 an hour.
Is a game that you play for hundreds of hours worth $100? Sure, that’s one of the cheapest forms of entertainment around. Name something else you can do, and enjoy, for under $.50 an hour.

Yes this is indeed something you allways have to do IMO, but the main problem here isnt really the price of the game itself, but more the fact that while the world has Brink for around $50, aussies have it for $100… This is the main problem, and is it really that harder to ship to AUS than Japan for exemple? I pretty much doubt it.
Thats why if they feel screwed, I suggest them to fight back and vote with their wallets and petitions and stuffs, by letting everything going down the road, our “world” wont be gettin any better…
Peace
Yeah. I refuse to buy games from retail stores (EB Games here is the Aus section of Gamestop) since they all charge $80-110 for games and even up to $70 for second hand games!
This is why I’m such a huge advocate for Steam - it brings fairness back to us in Australia. But over the last year the big publishers have cottoned on to the price disparity and upped the prices. So I now buy all my games if they are priced higher than overseas from the overseas Steam sites (store.steampowered.com?cc=uk).
Also Aus guys, Ozgameshop.com is another site that’s pretty cheap. I think they source their games from the UK too.
Maybe it’s because they’re trying to dissuade people from buying violent video games? (I’m guessing.)
