Anyone else noticed this parallel universe? Found your alter ego yet?

(.Chris.) #2

Yes, there is big link that is hard to miss…

(tokamak) #3

Shame, they’re all way too excited to spot any mr. grumpy yet. But I’m sure one will arrive soon. Every forum needs one.

(darthmob) #4

Not sure if I’m going to register but it’s always interesting to see unbiased opinions (unbiased compared to the crowd that knows SD games). That forum has got a weird layout though. It took me a few minutes until I realized that Layman is not the username but a forum rank.

(tokamak) #5

Good point, I’ll leave them alone for now

A funny thing is, here, the majority of us does not support the addition of female characters, but there, it is the other way around.

So this proves that since we are fan of SD games, we think of games not having female characters as “normal”, while in bethesda forums, the missing female characters is “odd”.

It must be a negative universe there.

(tokamak) #7

Oh that would mean they’ve got a guy who shuts up all the time.

(Ragoo) #8

Nice one xD

I can’t really see how you can discuss about female character implementation in BRINK after you read SD’s reasons not to do it  So yeah, I guess they weren’t enlightened by SD’s design philosophy yet :stuck_out_tongue:

(DarkangelUK) #9

cos some people just can’t let go and accept reason…

Mirrors Edge main character was a female. Perhaps, that might have alot to do with it?

Also, Bethesda is known for Elder Scroll games and Fallout 3…both have male/female character customization.

(signofzeta) #12

that’s exactly the reason. Not having female characters in a bethesda game to them is like how we SD fans complain about anything that isn’t ETQW or Wolf ET in Brink.

I mean, have you seen the ironsights thread? Or Apples 3 faction thread?

It is as if some people think that game developers should pump out the same game. Well IW and Treyarch sure are doing that.

(PSG_Mud) #13

Well, I personally don’t think Brink should be ETQW 2. I think ETQW:2 should be ETQW:2.

I however have ethical standards, call me old fashion, call me illogical, but, I just can’t stomach or morally commit to killing women or children in a somewhat realistic FPS game. Its a personal issue with me. If SD decides to go that route in the future, its up to them. But, I personally cannot stay around with that.

I think with issues like this, its alot more than just wanting Brink to be like ETQW. The lack of vehicles is the biggest killer for me, but, I never talk about it. This is because, Brinks focus is more on diverse movement in firefights, which is huge to gameplay, and, I accept that. I think people just want a taste of older games they played, to have something to go off of. They don’t necessarily want a re-edited copy, even though that can still be entertaining.

Brink shouldn’t be ETQW 2 or Wolf ET 2, but it definitely should be similar. The reason I want to play Brink is for the team oriented class/obj game play. To me it makes for a much more complex and enjoyable game that you can’t get any other way. No vehicles is fine for me, as I find vehicles to be a different form of skill, but it tends to be so hard to balance that I would rather stick to the old aim and shoot focus. Vehicle maps and non-vehicle maps almost feel like completely different games in ETQW. The day I abandoned vehicles was the day I realized just how horrible they were (at least in pubs).

(Stroggafier) #15

Thanks for the link @tokomak.

Reading through the Bethesda forum presents another community’s view of Brink. Even though in a few short posts, they hit many of the same topics, discussion points and even a few of the same conclusion, it was good to read and notice the many differences.

Seems the Bethesda Brink forum has a lot lighter perspective (less serious and dug-in) on Brink than have the SD forum members. Understandable, as they are a bit more removed from the developer moderators than are SD forum members

They even have a member photo section - that’s always interesting.

Oh, and judging by those forum comments, I do believe that SD is going to have a bit of a contraversy on their hands when it comes to promoting some of Brink’s design choices. I smell male-female damage control the morning after.

(SebaSOFT) #16

I don’t know if anyone brought this, but I’d stay here… ETQW forums were wiped out without mercy by Activision, and the developer has commitment to their games.

(signofzeta) #17

some of the SD members should go to the Bethesda forums to meet with the Bethesda fans or something, and get to know them, because the SD community and the Bethesda community is totally different.

(tokamak) #18

Or let’s just keep it that way, this is fun.

That, or those people actually have arguments to be against such ideas.
… like how we SD fans complain about anything that isn’t ETQW or Wolf ET in Brink.

I mean, have you seen the ironsights thread? …
as the opener of that ironsight thread i need to say a bit about it.

its not that i complain about that brink is not etqw or wolf:et. etqw actually did a lot stuff the wrong way. this started with the use of vehicles (for example: look at the drivable objective vehicle mcp which causes more problems than the fixed path tank vehicle in wolf:et), sometimes bad network performance, static “rail” like movement and not to forget the introduction of the ironsight. some are personal issues, some are actual game issues.

wolf:et imho didnt do anything wrong. i cant think of anything. so, im not saying, copy wolf:et, put some new graphics on it and thats fine. no. brink does a lot of great new stuff we all know by now. brink gets back to oldschool shooting, no more vehicles, objective vehicle drives a fixed path, obviously the movment system has been improved and so forth. so, in the end brink is the new wolf:et with ironsights (and smart and xp and chracter costumization and story and what not).

imho
all this “melting sp and mp together” talking. all that invite your friends to play cooperativly. even the fact that theres a actual story behind the game wont matter in the end. this is just advertising and marketing to grab a new croud. in the end we all play against each other on dedicated game servers just like we used to back in the good old days.
imho

(Please don’t turn this into another ironsights thread :))
