beta test: background image plugin for radiant

(SCDS_reyalP) #1

The file:
http://www.cyberonic.net/~gdevault/rfm/mapstuff/bkgrnd2d-0.1.zip
only 8k, including readme. Windows only for now. GtkRadiant 1.3.12 only. Does NOT work the the splashdamage et radiant, or 1.2.x gtkradiant, or qeradiant 1.01.

The source, in case someone wants to look at my mess, or compile on another platform:
http://www.cyberonic.net/~gdevault/rfm/mapstuff/bkgrnd2d-0.1src.zip
You will need a buildable gtkradiant source tree to build it. For any non-windows platform you will also have to figure out the compile options. I suggest ripping those off from some other plugin.

What it does:
Lets you display an image on your x/y 2d view. Useful for alphamaps, command maps, sketches, tracemaps, or viewing at pr0n while you map.

How to do it:
Read the readme. You can view it here:
http://www.cyberonic.net/~gdevault/rfm/mapstuff/readme_bkgrnd2d.txt

Feedback:
Here or by email. hellsownpuppy@yahoo.com

This is a very early version. I plan on fixing some of the quirks, giving it a better UI and making it work in all the 2d views.

GtkRadiant 1.3.8-ET
Great program  But this can work in my version of Radiant?
Regards…

Damn cool idea, especially the pr0n bit! Must poke the coding team here about this one.

(radiant) #4

ok i got new version radiant, but i nothing see in PLUGINS :expressionless:

(Drakir) #5

Seems great!
When ur at it, make a plugin so that we can paint the terrain in Radiant, then u would be my hero!

(SCDS_reyalP) #6

Did you put bkgrnd2d.dll in your gtkraidant/plugins directory ?
If it is correctly installed, you should see
2d Background plugin built Oct 21 2003 1.3.12
in the radiant console after you start up.

Drakir,
That would be quite a bit harder. However, you can use this to display your aphamap overlayed exactly on your terrain. If you choose represntative colors, this should give you a fair idea of what it is going to look like. Currently, you will have to save a copy of your alphamap as a true color image. In the future, I’ll probably make the plugin understand .bmp and .pcx, and maybe even make it automagically do the right thing for entities with an alphamap or _indexmap key.

Damn cool idea, especially the pr0n bit! Must poke the coding team here about this one.

Surely your coding team already knows about teh pr0n ? :stuck_out_tongue: I will be offering this to TTimo for inclusion.

nice

(Danyboy) #8

not making maps at moment - but must say that is a damn good idea

I had few probs with postitioning items on cc_maps with just tracemap to work with

nice job

(MindConfusion) #9

Looks great about to give it a try, but with what Drakir said that could be cool if ya could create that. Something for ya to think about though. Plus I’m sure everyone else out there wouldn’t mind having that.

(radiant) #10

Please post the last page or so from the console after you do that.

Now for gtkradiant 1.3.13, with special beta sauce

Changes from 0.1:

  • all 2d views supported
  • new ui (toolbar, dialog box)
  • file selection patterns, default directory improved

Win32 binary:
http://www.cyberonic.net/~gdevault/rfm/mapstuff/bkgrnd2d-b0.2.zip

Source:
http://www.cyberonic.net/~gdevault/rfm/mapstuff/bkgrnd2d-b0.2-src.zip

Readme:
http://www.cyberonic.net/~gdevault/rfm/mapstuff/readme_bkgrnd2d-b0.2.txt

I think the UI still kind of sucks. Too many buttons that most people won’t need most of the time.

Thoughts ? Bugs ? Beer ?

(nUllSkillZ) #13

I have GTKRadiant 1.4.
I’ve tried to use the plugin “bkgrnd2d” that ships with that version.
But GTKRadiant crashed after choosing the picture.
I’ve tried “jpg” and “tga”.
Must the picture have an alpha channel?

Is there another way to get a background picture into Radiant?

(Vitriol) #14

can it toggle the image on/off with a hotkey or keystroke? (that would be cool). i hope you are able to get it working for the SD ET radiant. it sounds helpful.
