Beta Release: Industrial Espionage- Threat Assessment

This map is not finished! I am sending it to people by email who are interested in testing and giving me feedback!

Background story:

The year is 1943. Italy has just surrendered, but the rest of the world remains at war. The Office of Secret Actions orders that Agent B.J. Blazkowicz be sent on a spy mission to a German industrial facility. Until recently, this facility was unknown to Allied forces, therefore you are being sent in to assess its purpose and threat level.

Mission briefing:

You are ordered to infiltrate a newly-discovered German industrial facility whose purpose is as yet unknown. Your mission is to survey the complex and assess its purpose and threat level.

We know very little about this facility. Based on aerial surveillance of the site, it appears to be comprised of three levels: loading and shipping areas on the ground floor, and administrative offices on the top floor. We presume that the machine rooms are located beneath ground. It is the knowledge of the contents of these machine rooms that is most important to OSA.

If this facility is like others known to us, there will be a security system located in the KONTROLLPUNKT (Checkpoint) office. If so, it will be to your advantage to destroy the alarm control panel as soon as possible.

Explore the facility, terminate any resistance, access the lower-level machine rooms, and report back your findings.

Please suggest any changes, but keep in mind I won’t do anything major at this point. Tell me places where you think the enemies are too hard, to the point where the game is not fun. Also tell me if you get stuck anywhere and can’t figure out where to go, again to the point where it’s not fun.

The last room is not finished. Also point out any other mistakes in textures that you see.

Feel free to send this file to others by email, but please don’t post it on the web! Why not? Well, I don’t want people to get confused and download this beta file instead after the map gets released officially.

I have sent the .pk3 file to the three people who have emailed me so far. In the event that I don’t get your email, or you don’t get my 4 MB attachment, post here and let me know after 2 days (I may not get to email every day).

Thanks to the people who have play tested this new map, I have made the improvements to the problems that they found.

I am disappointed with the performance of q3map2 with regards to the shader overflow problem, and I regret to say that I will have to release the map with this problem.

I will put the finishing touches on the map this weekend, and hopefully have it all finalized for next week.

I was going to release the final version of the mission today, but I just got an email from vicpas and he has offered to help by compiling the .map file with q3map instead of q3map2 in order to defeat the shader overflow problem, which has defeated me!

Vicpas sent me a movie of him playing on the q3map compiled mission. Looks great! He also told me that my map still has too many entities, so I’m going to remove more to solve the explosion problem that people were having with the flame barrels.

I think I should have this all finished by the weekend.

After some time, I’ve finally got the flame barrel problem fixed, so I have sent the files to vicpas to be compiled with q3map. I hope to have this all released on Monday for everyone.

Vicpas tells me that he is compiling the map now, so hopefully he will have it ready for tomorrow. Sorry for the delays! (You know who to blame! :wink: )

Contest!

I added a 3rd secret area to this map. It is very difficult to access and even vicpas asked me how to reach it. Even I have trouble getting to it.

The first person to tell me how to reach this secret area will get to be the first person to play my next map that I am working on right now.

I will have more details about this contest when this map is released.
