"Beta Card" Loadout Customization - Sort of.... (Another Doggy Idea)

(TheGreatHoundini) #1

So… I know I’m just a dog. I have a hard time thinking.
But I was just thinking…

Sometimes people debate about the Loadout System of Dirty Bomb. Personally, I like the system here. Although I also love the total customization that is offered in other games like COD and Blacklight Retribution. But the truth is, the more customization there is, the more things there are to grind over - which sucks.

Yet, while DB’s total loadouts in cards allow a full set of (some) gratification from getting each card, there’s still something to the argument that it can possibly be fun to be able to make up your own load outs. This is, of course, the enjoyment of having more customization.

So… I was thinking. What if we added a special card called a “Beta Card” or something. And the idea is that each Account on DB can, for a fee of say 4.99 USD, create a “Beta Card” that allows you to make ONE card for ONE merc, with an expiration of 1 day. You can only make one “Beta Card” once a month.

When you make a “Beta Card” you can select ANY of the existing perks, ANY of the primary weapons, ANY secondary weapons, and almost ANY melee weapon (except for the katana as I figured that was special). So this allows for some wacky combinations or custom load outs (eg: LMG Auras, Sniper Proxies, etc.) - for anyone who wants it badly enough for 4.99, to test drive the “Beta Card” for a single day.

What you cannot configure in the “Beta Card” system is your skin. You will appear in a Crash Test Dummy style camo that is bright orange with yellow/black circles.

In the menu to create the “Beta Card”, the screen showing details for the “Beta Card”, and in the dialog when the card inevitably expires you can also click a button that says “Suggest this Loadout to the Developers”.

There can also be a gallery of “Beta Cards” that the community created and were Suggested and the community can like, dislike a “Beta Card” (although it must be clear that whether any of the “Beta Cards” become official is up to SD).

Do you guys think this is a good idea?

pass, hate rentals in games

my only concern about loadouts I have is if splash damage would just explain to new players all you need is a bronze card to be optimal and how to make them.

(PlatinumCLAW) #4

I am more concerned of them making the tutorial mandatory for new players, coz i hate lvl 5+ auras not knowing to revive.
And about loadout cards, meh. I hate this system anyways.
If i like the primary, i dont like the secondary, if i like weapons, i dont like the arguments and so on.

Yeah I hate rentals too. But in a way this isn’t really a rental. The idea is you’re paying 4.99 to allow you to “build your own prototype card”. Of course it’s only there for people who REALLY need to scratch that itch about “What if?” questions for loadouts.

Note: Even if this “Beta Cards” thing existed I’d never use it.

If this was implemented the mercs would only be able to use the guns in their weapon/augment pool to avoid ptw. If you were allowed to give any merc any gun, may as well move onto the next game because that would completely fuck the balance. Even if its only for a day.

And this is why cod is a really bad game.

First the price of 5$ a day is just a rip off, better to buy an elite case for that price
Second, it would destroy the game and a bunch of people will quit after they see Fragger with Bigger Blast and Explodydendron and I prefer not fightning Redeye with MOA, MP400, Kukri and with Spares, Quick Eye and Spotter.

I really don’t mind crafting custom loadouts but only if they stay forever and you can’t use weapons the merc normally can’t use and also the augments should come in packs of 3, so you choose them together and you can’t choose each augment individually but only a pack with 3 augments together

Yeah… I’m aware of that too. Especially if the “Beta Card” system were to be used by trolls. It could be very very bad. But it can also be used for “Genuine Testing”. Sometimes I’ve felt it somewhat restrictive that Aura has shotguns and can’t have anything else. They tell me: “You’re the medic, you’re not supposed to rush.” Right. But 2/3rds of the time I have a shotgun as a primary, and the Blishlok doesn’t like me.

So sometimes I’d like to have at least a dry run where I can try Aura out with other guns that SD would normally not let her have.

What if… The “Beta Card” system was free… but you could only try out your “Beta Cards” on a single player map? Something like the Training Course? Just like the Training Course has jumps, targets close together, targets located around corners. So it’s like you can test for example how bad it would be for Fragger to have Explodydendron or something.

Sometimes you come across a test that “feels right” and that’s what the Suggest button would be for.

And others can try out other people’s “Beta Cards” on the “Beta Test Course” also.
Kinda like a Super Mario Maker, but for Loadout cards that don’t exist (yet)?

But yeah, something to be said about only allowing the currently allowed pool of items. That would be safer.

(TheGreatHoundini) #9

Yeah, this happens to me too. In principle though I have no real problem against it. I was just wondering if there was a way for both an RNG and fully-Custom system to co-exist.

@TheGreatHoundini
You can play offline with some command you use in the console: Switchlevel
Then you can test all guns and abilities. You just can’t use augments.
Try some guide on steam community to find all console commands.

p2w detected

you messed it up, you should be able to choose skins and keep them permanently not weapons for one day

Suggested this a week and a half ago. Ardez pretty much said this kind of thing is not going to happen. The game is supposed to be focused on competitive play, and offering cards that other players may or may not have would disrupt the balance of the game.
