Best marketing aid?

(McAfee) #1

This is a question to those who already own the game, and want to convince friends to do the same.

(Calelith) #2

If they live close by, get them to have a go on the game.

Long distance friends, i’m not sure.

The Demo:
Pros: Runs for indefinite time as long as there are servers (may be a con)
Cons: Limited experience of the game, Can’t play with friends with the full version. Requires a parallel server community.

Occasional Steam Free Weekends.
Pros: Game is pre-loaded if they want to buy. Can preview the full game as it’s meant to be played. Can preview with players of the community. No extra servers required.
Cons: Limited time (may be a pro)

No Demo, No Weekend.
It’s a different kind of promotion. Creates anticipation? But I’m no marketing expert.

steam free weekends dont include xbox which is bad.

(trigg3r) #5

well for the PC, once they’re finished fixing the bugs and implemented some of the stuff suggested in the PC Feedback thread, a Free weekend would be a good idea imo.

A free weekend is what convinced me and a lot of my friends to get TF2, i also assume that by then most of the players will know how to play Brink and do some teamwork, so it will be a better experience for the newcomers as well.

(Inofor) #6

I’m with free weekend, but ONLY after the bugs have been ironed out.

(Treshy) #7

steam free weakend as everyone can play the whole game. but at first the bugs and container city must be fixxxxed

I talk friends into trying out Brink, but can’t whole-heartedly recommend it as a must-buy to most of them - there’s a handful who will appreciate what they’re getting into, but plenty more who might not get it.

I voted demo, because it would be a good way to give people the concept without handing out too much.

I normally recommend either renting it or playing it at a friend’s place (mine if the person I’m speaking to is local).

EDIT: Also, Steam free weekend is platform-exclusive, demos aren’t.

ManGiraffeDog, a horrible marauding godless killing machine, is coming to destroy humanity. I’ve come to warn you to RUN AWAY and save yourselves. Here’s what it looks like so you can be prepared:

I’m super serial.

A demo would be great but not before SD fix the lag or make the demo 5 vs 5 only.

(Kurnuttaja) #11

Vote for free weekends, best time to pull one out is at the release of the free DLC (with a sale).

(McAfee) #12

I really meant for PC here, on consoles you pretty much have the option of demo or no demo.

(sirius89) #13

Steam free weekend should be the best.

In some weeks maybe when the game is fixed and everything runs fine.

(Calelith) #14

A demo that lets them play with the full game players, but level limit and maybe map limit?

(KAS--Will) #15

I say do what Steam did to get me to get Killing Floor & TF2. Just give free weekends of the full game, however with 360 and PS3 owners (like myself). Give a demo showcasing the ONLINE ONLY play and how it doesn’t lag ANYMORE (so of course this is after the patch).

(H3LLS1) #16

Patch, and then try to get all the review sites that MURDERED this game to do a new review.

(KAS--Will) #17

Especially IGNorant.

What’s funny, is IGN is such a terrible critic, that XBox Indie game used to have a category called “IGN’s Picks”, now it’s, “Kotaku’s Picks”… rightfully.
