Best maps ever!

I’m gonna try to remake a few maps from the good old days of Rogue Spear…such as CSL, NSF, The Met, and all those other awesome maps. Of course they will be scaled a bit larger due to the faster movement speed of ET and jumping and such, but I’m sure it will be hella fun!

I hated rogue spear…

lol i loved it but i don’t know if those maps will work on et
:???:

it can be cool but remember that et is about the WWII

Hey, I remembered seeing some Goldeneye 007 (N64) maps available somewhere in .map format, but I could never get them to open in Radiant. I’m sure RtCW and ET fans would like some of those, assuming someone can get them to open in an editor.

(flashkillaman) #5

like libary and stuff? mp or sp maps?

(kevinski) #6

I think they were MP maps. I actually found the link in the RtCWFiles.com forums a LONG time ago. I wouldn’t know where to find them now.

(flashkillaman) #7

i mean with objective or deathmatch

(Vollgaser) #8

there is a goldeneye-mod for halflife and u can play its maps in counter-strike too. the whole level bsp geometry can be exported as one brush an imported to ued 3.0. i did that, but u have to import and assign/align the textures new in ued. the maps from the mod can be converted back and edited in an editor (i used worldcraft/hammer in those days).

Goldeneye maps would be way too small for Enemy Territory. C’mon people, let’s focus on ORIGINALITY.

IMO, it doesn’t matter if a map has anything to do with WW2, as long as it’s fun. Gameplay is far more important than setting.

For example, the first map I make will probably be on some weird floating-in-the-sky thing. Just 'cos I think that sort of thing’s cool.

Here are the Goldeneye maps:

I just happened to be browsing the filesnetwork forums and saw your post about this kevinski. I relpied 2 mins ago with that link.
:moo:

(kevinski) #13

I wouldn’t have even noticed you were the same person. Thanks for the info, though.

(redfella) #14

You should be mapping for q3.

(Gecko) #15

I personally hate playing ET in maps that has nothing to do with WW2, what are we doing with ww2 wapons in a modern city, for that I play CS or Quake :moo:

Wow…this topic certain was buried for a long time. Anyway, my computer was down for a pretty decent amount of time, and I never felt like fixing it. (Hey, I felt freed. Can you blame me?) I was trying to avoiding putting any games and such on my computer, in order to make it a little easier to motivate myself to work on my Web site a bit. That plan didn’t work, because I’ve definitely been thinking about mapping for RtCW and ET much more. I’ve been going through 3dbuzz.com’s video tutorials, and I’m now feeling up to the task.

Why did I bump this topic, though? Well, I got to thinking about using those Goldeneye maps as a starting point, but I eventually realized that all of the Goldeneye maps that were ported to other games got some pretty dismal reviews. It was then that I came up with a great idea: I’m gonna use some of the Goldeneye maps (small, I know) to aid in the basic layouts of smaller areas within my first map. Here’s a bit of info on the map I plan to create. And none of that ‘not another beach map’ talk…

title: re_beach

story:
Allied forces are attempting to steal top secret war documents from an Axis beach installation. (Taken from mp_beach’s description in RtCW, strictly for nostalgic purposes, I assure you.)

setting: a beach (duh) :stuck_out_tongue:

teams: Allies on offense, Axis on defense

concept:
re_beach will contain the same elements as mp_beach for RtCW (sniper hill, trenches, etc.), only ‘remixed’, so to speak. Most notably, however, some spawn points will be protected against long-distance campers, while others will be inaccessible once left. Note that the secondary objectives listed below are entirely optional, only intended to make fulfillment of the primary objectives easier. The base that must be infiltrated will have far more entrance points, although these entrance points will require varying amounts of skill levels from players. Engineers are NOT required to win this map.

Allies’ objectives:
primary 01: steal and transmit the Axis’ war documents
secondary 01: breach the forward bunker door
secondary 02: breach the sea wall
secondary 03: capture the forward spawn point

Axis’ objectives:
primary 01: defend the war documents
secondary 01: defend the forward bunker door
secondary 02: defend the sea wall
secondary 03: defend the forward spawn point

Note that I do realize how many ET players hate beach-style maps. Yes, there’ve been a LOT of bad beach map releases, but there have been some good ones, too. I’m actually in the process of learning GtkRadiant, and I’m working on the layout for re_beach now. Of course, the map’s title is still a working title, and it may not be re_beach in the final release.

I dunno i got my golden eye dam level played with 8 people the other night , it felt like we could double the numbers and still have it played good.
I had to add around 2-3 more routes to the obj in the base of the dam , but it still feels good, and some levels from golden eye/ other none ww2 era games can be ported over to ww2 style maps/play.
Just keep things bland then add E.T/rtcw ww2 kinda details.
i’ll put some pictures up later, right now its pub time

I’m interested in seeing your treatment of the levels. I’m just trying to decide whether or not I’d like to use custom textures on my first map. I already have so much to worry about. We’ll see what happens.
