I have just envisaged a CQC maneuver where you would do a SMART slide with a melee attack at the end, having the effect of knocking someone out by pistol whipping them in the shins.

how many pistol whips/rifle butts does it take to knock out a player? … in a couple of the vids it looks like one hit but it was prolly just done on players with a handful of hitpoints.

Anyway it the spirit of pointless speculation it will be interesting to see whether maneuvers like this end up being tactically useful, tactically useless or not actually possible.

One melee strike with a two handed weapon knocks you down if you are standing.
One melee strike (assume with two handed weapon, but maybe knife as well) to a downed player will kill him.
So it takes two to kill a guy.

A slide will knock a guy down, but possibly the guy can get up faster than if he was melee’d (not sure, seemed like that was implied somewhere). Would make sense as he’s not reeling from a rifle butt to the head.

As I understand it if you’re melee’d while your down, regardless of cause, you are killed.

Explosions (including nades) will knock you down as well. A rifle nade hit will knock you down (bounce off and explode elsewhere). Probably other ways.

Getting knocked down and what you do then (either fighting from that position or trying to get back up first) will apparently be a big part of the gameplay.

Lights also have a different melee, when they have a pistol.
They can carry a knife in their other hand which allows them to do faster melees.
Its still not an instant kill…its reported to do about 50% damage

Also, the knife does extra damage compared with rifle-butt melee, but it doesn’t have the knockdown effect the rifle-butt does.

To my understanding, not only lights have the knife, the thing is all lights will have it, cause as a secondary weapon they’re forced to take a pistol, but now even a heavy with a pistol in his hand will have a knife as melee attack.

I’m wondering if rifle-butt melee is every time a knockdown on hit though… seems a little easy.

I’ve been wondering…what’s stopping everyone from sliding around the maps knocking eachother out ? not very FPSy that :stuck_out_tongue:
iirc there’s no stamina bar or smth like that ?

I imagine it would be good for one on ones, but make it two bad guys to beat and that’d be a lot less efficient.

Getting in range to slide tackle/melee somebody from a dead straight sprint is easier said than done. Unless they have sprint shooting as a perk, they can light you up before you even get close enough to do anything all while you sit there defenselessly running. I know the knock down mechanic might seem exploitable, I’m sure SD have tweaked the s*** out of the timing of getting up after slides and knock down to make it so that players can defend themselves from that tactic. Hell, one of the main themes of their development process has been balancing everything to make it so that there are no cheap one off kills. Slide melees will be no different.

when 2 sliders collide, they automagically stand back to back, walk 10 paces and shoot it out with pistols
