Beginner-Friendly RTCW Mapping Tutorials with the RealRTCW Mod Version 4

(Loffy) #1

Greetings, fellow map enthusiasts!

I’ve put together a series of beginner-friendly tutorials aimed at helping newcomers into the world of mapping for Return to Castle Wolfenstein (RTCW), all while utilizing the RealRTCW mod version 4. Here’s the link to the playlist:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTh7nBU0bpUcp-oM4WOTOAmmsqcw16tkN

I made it with beginners in mind, trying to offer straightforward instructions to help you get started. I also wanted to show how to incorporate the RealRTCW mod version 4 into your mapping endeavors because I think it will enhance the experience and open up possibilities.

Happy RtCW mapping!

Hello, i need your help. I’m following your tutorial on making RTCW maps (The first part), you copy some files from wolfenstein folder, you have two folders named Radiant and Radiant 1.3 (you show it at 3:20) and i don’t have them. Is there any place where I can download them? Thanks in advance.

Hi Mita!

You are talking about a much older tutorial  I have moved on, and today I do not recommend radiant.

Alright im gonna follow the new one, thanks for fast response

The editor is somehow saving files to nonexistant drive (E:)
Snimak%20ekrana%202024-02-16%20150449
I don’t even have E, only C
And I run the BSPCUI exactly like in tutorial, it doesn’t create the .aas files.

Hello!

About the first problem, “The editor is somehow saving files to non-existant drive”, use the “Save As …” alternative when you save your map file from the editor. That way, you can save your map file on your own drive.

About the second problem, “it doesn’t create the .aas files”, please see my second video at the timestamp 18:00.

Sometimes the bot files are not created properly. I solve this problem by re-running the BSPCU.exe a couple of times, until I get two new aas files.

Alright, thanks

I have tried countless times and it just doesn’t want to create .aas files.
Also I am getting this error when trying to start RealRTCW (happens for both 32 and 64bit).

Hi!

Strange. I do not know what is the problem.

Here are the system requirements for RealRtcw. Perhaps it is the problem?

Loffy

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM:

  • *OS : Windows 7 or better

  • Processor: AMD Phenom™ II X4 965 Processor or better

  • Memory: 1024 MB RAM

  • Graphics: 3-D Hardware Accelerator (with 512MB VRAM with full OpenGL® support)

  • DirectX: Version 9.0

  • Storage: 3 GB available space

  • Additional Notes: Return to Castle Wolfenstein required to play

***** Starting January 1st, 2024, the Steam Client will only support Windows 10 and later versions

(Mita Terminator) #11

I reinstalled the RealRTCW and did all the things from first tutotial again and now RealRCTW does work(I also deleted wolfconfig.cfg from Wolfenstein and ran game to make it again). I still can’t get the BSPCUI to work and make the .aas files.
Thanks for answering to all these questions

(Loffy) #12

Hi!
Also, perhaps you could test and ask the RealRtcw modders at their Discord channel? I hope it’s OK to post their link here.

Good luck
Loffy

Alright, thanks

Hey,
Thanks for the awesome video tutorials - just what I need right now while tinkering around on old time mod WildWest, for the few players left around, to freshen things up.

Will there be tutorials on creating simple objectives (scripting) and how, for example, to compile them in a chain (like, capture this, then destroy that, then steal and secure something else)?

Maybe you are aware of some RtCW maps which have source codes in it? So far I managed to find kothtest map with source code…

Thanks in advance! I really appreciate what you’re doing! <3

(Loffy) #15

Hi!

Thanks!

These RtCW singleplayer maps have the map file included inside the pk3.

Yes, I will continue to release YouTube tutorials, incl. objectives, scripting etc.

Are you mostly interested in creating multiplayer maps? I can try and make some tutorials about that as well.

(zivs) #16

Yes, - WildWest is all about multiplayer (I have no idea if this mod could handle regular bots, as it has different … things, like fire rate, movement speed…). So far I have been messing around with ChatGPT, which even understands the scripts (can explain what is happening in them), but not really good at editing them.

As I recently discovered netradiant (the one which is made by Garux), I am just blown away with features and possibilities it offers, compared to GtkRadian 1.5x and older ones (used for WW mod)…

Wildwest in short:

  2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpvdPSu8z14
  3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-Rq8A1Zsi4

As you see, old as World itself. and yet there are still some old farts playing it occasionally.
