beginner box map - problems with mapcoords

(Noldor) #1

hello, i’m trying to make the classic dummy’s boxmap. i have read all the topics about ET and mapcoords but i can’t get my map working. i have set mapcoordsmins and mapcoordsmaxs to values who describes a perfect square (topleft, bottomright) a little bigger than the bigger brush of the map. but it still freezes when i enter into the limbo menu.

any suggestion?
thanks,

When the map first loads and before you try to enter the limbo menu type the following 2 lines into the console:

\developer 1
\generatetracemap

If everything is compiled properly you should be able to get into your map.

it says “unknown command generatetracemap” :eek2: … anyway, i found the problem and nobody talked about it… you must make the mapcoords square MUCH MORE large than the bigger brush… at least 64 units in any direction… i make it only 16 units larger in any dir and it didn’t work. I made it 128 units larger and it worked well, with the same brushes and entities. I suggest to update tutorials and faqs with this info, it’s important for newbies like me!

yes he said to go i.e. 64 units up and left, but i hadn’t understand it was the minimum lenght…

I have a simillar problem with mapcoords. I tried all the settings: with no extra space, 64 units or 128 units, and the map itself is square so i don’t have to worry about that, but it still freezes in limbo (or if I do the generate tracemap it says that I have to make valid mapcoords). I’m out of ideas. Any suggestions?

I make the mapcoords surround the entire map. If the upper-left of my map was 1060 and the lower-right was 1000, I’d make it 1280 -1280 and -1280 1280 (I might have reversed those).

:moo:

hzigy try making a boxmap with this exact coordinates: 0 512 (topleft), 512 0 (bottom right). then, set mapcoordsmins to [ -64 572 ] and mapcoordsmaxs to [ 572 -64 ]. It should work 100%. if it works, then try other measures but remember AT LEAST 64 units in both direction BIGGER than your perimeter…

If it doesn’t work, maybe you miss the info_player_deathmatch …
