Beeps for spawntimers

(Merrynator) #1

Would be nice to have the ability to toggle quiet beeps for the last 5 seconds of the spawn timer, either from the menu or with configs.

I know there exists 3rd party timers which do this for you, but they need alt tabbing and manual starting of the count down on start of each round which is a pain.

or you could grow up and pay attention to the Game you play without it having to babysit you

(Merrynator) #3

Making a suggestion and I need to suddenly grow up?

The problem is you often deeply engage the enemy team within the last 15 seconds and might forget to check the timer. Then you might make a mistake and revive a team mate with 2 seconds left on the clock or fail to tap out when you need to. I’d like to focus on doing stuff and, as you said, let the game do the babysitting.

I’d personally like to see something like this. I have over 1000 hours in the game and have no issue keeping track of timers, but I think it would be a great feature to make things easier for new players. It’s not “babysitting”, it’s making the game easier to pick up. A simple opinion isn’t grounds for insults.

But honestly, I’d rather the spawn timer not effect gameplay at all. I don’t like the meta it creates. Waiting for spawns to throw a grenade or airstrike, tapping out before someone can kill you, it just takes away from what the game is really about imo. Ideally I’d rather spawn timers be less fixed and more random. It’s just more enjoyable that way.

So thats your fault because you can’t pay Attention to things, thats why games get easier and more boring, thats why DB is more casual than ever. Players can’t keep track of 2 things at once…

Well kittz0r isn’t wrong

Yet it’s important and common enough so that people make 3rd party tools for this and gain the edge, even if it’s ever so little edge? More casual than ever yet it doesn’t seem to attract the casual crowd that much?

I do have around 1k hours in the game and some 100’s in W:ET and I’d just like to focus on the game and enjoy.

While I can see the usefulness I certainly wouldn’t want a constant beeping over a two-hour session of DB.

The timer is something you learn to play with. Because, okay it beeps, so what ? What do i do ? And when ? Having a beep doesn’t tell you when to push or not push, etc. And only players that want to be more competitive or focus more on strategies would find this useful. Maybe by doing a checkable option in game settings. But honestly, i’m sure i would find this annoying after a few games, because you don’t have to check EVERY spawn waves.

Before the beep, there should be an ingame gui to modify our HUD config. Because having the timer in the top left corner by default is not really an easy place to check every 20s. (same with the mini map). And even with the awesome tool that @Xyfurion made, it’s still bugged because of how the game handle the config files or data.

As long as it’s a toggle feature, I’m all for it.

(neverplayseriou) #11

DB forums, where you get banned for telling someone the game doesn’t need to hold his hand. rip kitt

  1. It does make you think that maybe there are things to consider when you hear the beeps.

  2. I agree, and think it should be a toggle (or config) feature, disabled by default.

Edit your config, place it in the middle of the screen, problem solved.

Where you get banned for being an absolute jerk to a not terrible idea, that is toggle-able and suggested well. The OP didn’t say I NEED THIS OMG SD HALP! WAAH!
He said, It’d be nice to have - And suddenly OP needs to grow up and pay attention… which was rude and disrespectful. Kittzor did have a point, but his point was delivered in the wrong way. He’s done several things throughout his time here as well beyond this incident that warranted the ban.

Consider this further though, we have enabled hit dings, do you use enabled hit dings? Why would something as important as a spawn timer not have a possible audio cue as well? Almost everything IN this game has an audible sound attached to it. The click in the reload, the subtle ting of the pin being pulled from Fragger’s frag. Etc.

In short, the game doesn’t need to hold our hands, and OP was simply suggesting a very plausible and understandable improvement. He wasn’t demanding or NEEDING anything. It’d just be another nice thing to have.

Thank you for this !

Anyway, looks like a few more explanations are due.

kittz0r did not got banned because he had an opinion. He got banned because he showed disregard towards following the community rules and due to his toxic and unpleasent behaviour. It’s not the first time I had to warn kittz0r for undeserved antagonism towards another user. In total Kirays and I did it three times. Every time the same crap : kittz0r spits on the moderation and doesn’t seem to learn anything. This time wasn’t even a full blown warning with the 2-3 warning points that comes with : it was just a simple notice, a mere tap on the wrist. Yet he decided that he had to throw a fuss about that. Why would I keep a fellow that throws a temper tantrum every time I warn them and keeps being agressive for no reason ? I don’t want to deal with a person that can’t and refuse to control himself, and you guys shouldn’t deal with that kind of people either.

Keep in mind that I also did not take that decision alone, and never do. There’s a whole crew of 5-6 moderators on DB’s official Discord group, plus the whole Splash Damage staff. If I ever feel like someone went too far and needs a ban, I’ll always ask the other mods and the DB staff first. In this case, kittz0r was fairly well known by SD for harassing them on social media websites and being overally very obnoxious. They did not want to deal with his crap anymore and they were fine with whatever decision I took. So I decided to get rid of him.

@Merrynator sorry that your thread turned into a whole moderation intervention.

I hope that I made everything clearer about kittz0r’s ban. Let’s not keep the thread off topic any longer and go back on the main subject.

It would be nice. But I think it should be the last 3 seconds and not 5.
I hate it when I’m in a gunfight and don’t realize the timer is about to reset so I get longed

(Your worst knifemare.) #19

As long as its optional its fine.
