While I am not so keen on extreme Cvar tweaking (when leaves start disapearing from trees ect. things start to go into the grey area) they have punkbuster to deal with this. If they don’t like tweaking like that they could just have punkbuster limitations control it.

My suggestion is don’t go back to that server and find a better one. It simply isn’t worth the time and effort to play there again. Also if you really need to tweak the game that much to get decent FPS do yourself a favor and get a new graphics card. Try to save up $120 for a GeForce 4Ti, the game will be much more enjoyable with all the textures ect.

Fortunately in ET you can’t do that. Leaves only start disappearing from trees at r_picmip 5 and above. ET doesn’t recognise values greater than 3 for that cvar.

Anyway, thanks to my defense and ^Marco’s help to prove the point that the issue wasn’t the ban but the public accusation, the admin pull up the ban and agreed to remove the thread from their forum.

Glad to hear that. I hope that their admin takes the time to learn how to use PB properly so this kind of thing doesn’t happen again. Let it be a learning experience for them.

I doubt he’ll take the time to learn how to appropriately configure PB for this kind of stuff.

Furthermore, he didn’t remove the thread but simply placed it in the archive. Oh well… I don’t care much now, I’ve made my point on their forum.

If you need to do all that tweaking you just need to upgrade your PC. As for PB files themselves, I question anyone who tinkers with them at all, and there are those who do.

Umm… the idea is for server admins to set up PB according to thier specifications, so they can choose what does and doesn’t count as a violation. You can’t do that without “tinkering” with it.

Isn’t the point of tweaking not to have to upgrade your PC (some people aren’t made of money)? If tweaking offends, it’s simple enough to play on servers where PB prevents it (to any noticable degree).

I think Even Balance does a pretty good job of this. No need to tinker.

I disagree completely. The sample configs provided by evenbalance have contained errors and, invalid values, and have not checked abusable cvars. In fact, they don’t even have one designed for ET. They suggest the same one as RTCW.

DGs example is much better, and gives the reasons for each restriction.

this thread hits home.I havnt even messed with my cfg,yet ive been kik banned quite a few times 4 nothing more than headshots.So far my favorite kik ban was haxxing punkbuster :[…ive done my share of gaming,but as is stated alot of admins are quite lame.Ive never even seen an aimbot.Or had one used on me that was obvious…just good shooting.Id like to say its funny bein called a cheat…but its not.It gets old quik.And theres no way to change the mind of a moronic admin.I try an be nice…(why dont you spec me?) …Oh we all did and ur a haxxor…jesus…i play at a moderate skill lvl tops.Waight 4 the leet peeps.Noobs are a treat!!!gooooo admins!!!
