Been Playin Don't Get It

(TVSUCKS) #1

Rented the game. Been playing for four days. Have about eight hours in, maybe more. Completed each challenge on level one. BUt after all this I still can not complete mission 2. I mean I have played quite a few games and for it to be this hard to complete the second mission does not seem, well, normal.

Overall the game seems OK in concept, but somehow the balance seems off. I have the game until Friday and then I will have to decide whether to buy it.

One the one hand it is more involved and seems like it would be fun to build some skill in learning how to play. On the other hand it seems more difficult then it should be, at least in campaign mode. The little I have played online seems chaotic and unorganized, but again I have only played a little bit so some of that is just the learning curve. I also noticed that guys just camp the objectives. No surprise there, but unless you have a group of guys you pay with all the time, I don’t see how you can have much success.

So it seems like one of those games that was great in theory but putting it into practice seems like it fails a bit.

Bottom line, I play video games to have some fun right now what I feel is aggravated and frustrated.

I’d say wait a month or two, and then decide.
Right now, I’d say it can still go both ways depending of if they patch it or not. If they balance it out more, and make the multiplayer friendly then I’d say it’s a must buy, but if it stays the way it is… well, it won’t last long.
I’ve had a lot of fun with it, but like with any FPS out there the single player just doesn’t do it for me. I need to experience an online match with full teams of real people.

Well,

I’m not sure what they need to fix. I really think it comes down to how well people can play. I think the online experience for this requires that you have good cooperative team play. Without that things get chaotic and jammed up at choke points. So you definitely need full games with real people. But I think people just want to get on and play without overcoming any sort of learning curve, which is way games like COD do so well. It can be a one man show - aim and shoot basically. Nothing wrong with it, but it’s one thing.

It’s seems that lately games have not lived up to their hype. MEdal of Honor suffered the same fate. More cooperation was need to modes like combat mission and poor team play hindered what the game could have been (not to mention the complete lack of support by the vendor).

I hope this game doesn’t suffer the same fate because there is a lot here. Seems pretty well thought out but I think the way people play creates some problems. Hell, the game is frustrating me because it is definitely challenging.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. But it may be that FPS games will have to stay very basic to have mass appeal and people will have to look to other game types (like RPG’s) for a more involved gaming experience.

Welcome. Unlike many other developers, I have faith in SD to patch their game. They’ve already released several updates and even more are inbound, along with some free DLC.

I can’t comment on the console experience tho, PC player here. You are right about teamwork and complexity versus the lone wolf style of, say, COD. Brink is definitely at its finest in a multiplayer match with all humans willing to use VOIP and coordinate. However, if you hop into a game with at least one friend and just work together, that’s often enough to cause some real damage. Make sure to create a fireteam via the scoreboard so you can spot your friends easier and have a private VOIP channel just for yourselves… it’ll really help with coordination.

Even playing with one or two friends can make Brink amazing. Completely pubbing… not so sure.

(Spaiker) #6

I’m a complete pubber, no porblems, I completed the challenges (except parkour this 3) in the first hour I played the game.

(Smoochy) #7

give it time. play online only. the rest is just training really.

Thanks guys,

That’s my sense as well, sticking with it that is. Despite getting frustrated I can see all the possibilities with this game. There is a lot going on, which is partly what makes it challenging. The other part is just the style of gameplay. I really like the character movement as well, you don’t feel as confined.

Now if I could just complete Mission 2. Close so many times, but just couldn’t close the deal

Take care,
john

Playing it even with only 1 or 2 friends on VoIP makes the experience 10x better, tbh

What system are you on, because the Campaign is better with a friend!

All well and good but I really don’t see anyone except the hc fans will be playing it in a couple months.

Change to Heavy body type. I struggled for a while on my first day of ownership. Was giving it a go as medium and just couldn’t make it. With heavy you can take more damage. You sacrifice speed but it got me there.

(iezza) #14

i went straight to light, openned up the game to me, let me explore new areas , get the flanking edge in combat. needless to say, going BACK to medium later is a fairly good idea but play as light or heavy and it will almost refresh your view on the game.

If your having difficultiy with the challanges, I had exactly the same experience I was getting creamed each time I tried level 3.

However! I came to realise that this was a problem with the way in which BOT AI levels up with you. If you simply want to pass the challenges through all three levels with ease, create a new level 1 character and then try them. The unlocks will then span all of your characters.

If you fancy a virtually impossible challenge try Be More Objective on Solo, Level 20. Ridiculous!

As for online play, thats really were the action is for me and I don’t use VOIP mainly because its disabled by default and I can’t really figure out how the hell to turn it on

(crazyfoolish) #16

Play online and get a fireteam going for voip. It’ss also good because others players in your fireteam are shown with purple nametags.

(Cep) #17

I’ve been in fireteams I just can’t seem to hear anyone speaking :D, don’t suppose theres a volume control specific to VOIP? I mean I can hear the odd mumble but nothing clear.

(Stormchild) #18

FYI there is a sticky about that. :infiltrator:

(Cep) #19

Ooo! cheers SC ill go take a look for that.
