Beefing Abilities

Whether they are proficiency upgrades (which would be great, any reason to stay the same MERC is great for the player, the meta-game, and the spectator!) or just buffing up a bit, some abilities could use some shine, rather than just polish.

Notably weak are the turrets. Most deployables really. They are too fragile in a sense. I was thinking since everyone has a set of tools now, why not make shooting turrets disable them (30 seconds, or until repaired?), and force them to be dismantled? The same could be done for health stations and the like. I say if everyone gets a set of pliers, lets make more things to tear apart and put together.

This type of semi-permanent battlefield control could be key to allowing other items, like the Heartbeat Sensor, and Third-Eye-Cam to be made stronger tools.

Agreed. The problem is that some abilities (there we go again with the self-heal talking point) are so veratile and have so much potential that SD is keeping a strong lid on them. In turn they feel that other abilities, which usually have natural limits to their usability, need to be limited as well.

We’re working on making abilities much more memorable and interesting, see the updated Airstrike in the PAX demo video as an example of our first steps on this

i’m just picking out the point you made about the turrets: i’m playing engi (with turret) quite a bit lately, and used correctly i don’t think it’s weak at all. it takes skill and some figuring out to place them effectively and i like that. creating crossfires using a turret. hiding them in good places, placing them facing towards spots where the enemy is potentially vulnerable (back of the ev). it’s fun.

Yeah I don’t think turret is weak at all tbh. Even after it is destroyed you can recover it and reduce your cd by half, so you’ll have it up pretty much all of them time. It is capable of killing using 0 effort so I’d say that is strong enough.

I think also that turrets need a tiny bit more meat and faster reaction time (lock-on) or faster rotation.
