because nobody responds in the bug section: terrible gameplay issues after dickens update

(complimentaryUnion) #1

So last night i started up dirty bomb to play, but it took forever to launch. After about 5 minutes, it did launch but the mouse was very slow(a recurring issue whenever i play). I clicked join to get into a game, but it got stuck on the loading screen. It took a good 3 minutes on the loading screen before the loadout lock in screen came in. The loadout screen was also buggy, taking forever before it let me hit lock in.
After i joined to the game, it was horrible frames per second and garbage audio.
For an example for audio:
Usually the narrator says “They are defusing the C4!”
However with the stuttering its more like:
“theeeeeee yyyyyyy rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr de fffffffusi nnnnnnn ggggg…”
The spaces indicate the stuttering and some other weird noises in between.

Now for the gameplay: Around ten frames per second and immense input lag and keyboard lag. I cant play at all without the game doing these issues.

My laptop has never had these problems before the update( besides the mouse thing)
Its an I7 8gb ram
940m graphics
lenovo flex 3
15 inch

If anyone can help me it would be great.
Thanks.
Other people have been having this problem also.

They broke stuff with the update? Called it.

A friend said he had a bad framerate, about 50 frames lower than usual, when he tried playing after the update.
I haven’t tried it myself, yet, but I have low expectations.
They’ve probably fucked up with the trinket physics, along with some dumb tweaks to configs, just guessing, tho.

Actually I get better fps with all the extra video settings, the 50 fps drop was probably to the change to the change of the threadsync option that SD inverted.

I had the same problem and lost 90 frames, it is seemingly because of the additions to the ShooterEngine.ini. Before it was 47KB and now it is 67KB for me, so make sure these new settings are set to your optimal preferences.

After you start the game up at least once since the update, make sure that V-Sync is turned OFF (“False” in .ini). For some reason the update activated this for me when it first went live, causing FPS drops.

Also, despite what the patch notes say, Thread Sync (One Frame Interval) has seemingly not changed whatsoever. This is based on whatever you had it on PRIOR to to the update. Do not make the same mistake I made and switch, KEEP THIS THE SAME: OneFrameThreadLag=True/False

For example, I had “OneFrameThreadLag=True” prior to the update, and it is still set to True.

Make sure to fix these issues in the .ini file or main menu only. The dev’s mistakenly added 2 extra “Thread Sync” and “V-Sync” options to the In-game menu.

After I dealt with these issues I am pretty much back to my normal framerate.
If by chance there are any inaccuracies in this post, please voice it. A lot of confusion this update.

Hope this helped!

I’m not sure, but I feel like they added more graphics settings in the update and it automatically upped them for me. I had the same problem but it got fixed after I set them all back to low

(complimentaryUnion) #7

Ok i did what supa said ill see if it works

(Faraleth) #8

The QA team check the bug-reporting section, which is the most important people who can check, so I’m moving it there.

(complimentaryUnion) #9

nope still the same issues. Fps slightly increased to where its a fast slide show.
Audio still crap.
Anyone else know how to fix it?

Honestly im getting angry now. So many players have the same issues and ive heard nothing from the devs.

(complimentaryUnion) #10

@Faraleth ok. However nobody responded in the bug section which is why i posted in general chat.

(NxA_Noxie) #11

Hey @complimentaryUnion I am still trying to respond to everyone it’s been a crazy few days! With a lot of posts. I’ve had other similar reports as well, I’ve been told turning off vsync can help @Supa has the right idea.

(complimentaryUnion) #12

@NxA_Noxie I turned it off and it didnt work. Still like a slideshow.

(complimentaryUnion) #13

Can anyone help?

Sorry to hear you are still having issues. I would suggest trying to find a new ShooterEngine.ini and replacing your old one. Not sure if you have tried FPS configs yet, but if you would like, I will be happy to send you my shooterengine.ini and you can replace it with yours to try it for yourself to see if it works a bit better.

My ShooterEngine.ini: http://www.mediafire.com/download/1xh2835rvbttlxt/ShooterEngine.ini

First, keep your old .ini in case you want to go back to it! A common way to do this is to rename your current “ShooterEngine.ini” as “ShooterEngine.ini.backup”

After renaming your old file, place my ShooterEngine.ini or the one you found into this directory: C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\My Games\UnrealEngine3\ShooterGame\Config

Once you have my .ini in your directory you may have to make a few changes. The settings in my file are specifically for MY computer, so make sure that these settings all match your preferences and system specs .

ResX= (resolution width)
ResY= (resolution height)
bSmoothFrameRate=True (Change this to =False for uncapped)
MinSmoothedFrameRate=X (X to what you want your FPS capped at)
MaxSmoothedFrameRate=X (X to what you want your FPS capped at)
MinDesiredFrameRate=X (X to what you want your FPS capped at)
MinAllowableRefreshRate=X (X to what Hz your monitor is)
MaxAllowableRefreshRate=X(X to what Hz your monitor is)

After you make all the necessary changes, save the file making absolutely sure it is named ShooterEngine.ini and start up your game. If you want to make absolutely sure that nothing changes on startup, you can save the document and right click on it, select properties, and next to “Attributes” check the box that says “Read-only”

Later if you don’t like mine, delete my file and just go to your file to delete “.backup” from it. Now it will read ShooterEngine.ini once again and you will run on your old config.

Worst comes to worst, delete the ShooterEngine.ini all together and run the game to start completely fresh. This way you know that you have an absolutely up to date config.

You may want to refer to this article as well in case you have any further questions:
http://www.crossfire.nu/articles/view/id/990/page/1

Sorry for the issues, I have been there many times with many games. Really hope this helps, wishing you the best of luck!

(complimentaryUnion) #15

I dont mess with pc game files much so I was just wondering what does changing the ini files do for me? @Supa Also, is there any other more simplistic way to fix these problems?
Thanks for being so helpful Supa. I really appreciate it.

@complimentaryUnion

Changing the ShooterEngine.ini file controls video options, which is what can potentially give you FPS boosts.

If you have exhausted all of your options on the in-game menus, I am afraid you will have to go through the FPS config route I have illustrated. It really is simple to do though in all honesty, so I wouldn’t worry about tinkering with the files. You can always “verify the integrity of the game cache” on steam, so in the event of a worst case scenario you will ALWAYS be able to revert your game back to the defaults. You may actually want to do that now in order to make sure files aren’t corrupted or anything.

When I first started tinkering with the ShooterEngine.ini during the closed beta, I more than doubled my framerate. If FPS is the issue, you certainly should learn how to manipulate it. I strongly recommend the crossfire article I linked. Adeto did an excellent job illustrating everything you need to know in order to optimize Dirty Bomb to it’s full potential, so I HIGHLY suggest you read the bits on maximizing FPS and explaining what the .ini files do.

Hope the issues you have been having are just temporary. Always happy to try and help. Best of luck finding your solution!

(complimentaryUnion) #17

So i did what the article says and went into the file
I opened the shooter engine file. But i couldnt find the things listed
ex bsmoothframerate

(complimentaryUnion) #18

nvm i got that

(complimentaryUnion) #19

dirty bomb wont even launch now

(complimentaryUnion) #20

So i reinstalled steam and dirty bomb, but still had the same issues(even after i messed with the ini files). So i went into the ini files again, but i found two shooters engines(one that i renamed to backup).
Which one should I change?

I couldnt add a picture so this is what it looks like under configs(the files listed):
ShooterCompat
ShooterEngine
ShooterEngine.ini.backup
ShooterGame
(after this are the other files)

Should i edit the ini.backup or the regular one?
