(luuklag) #1

i already searched the forum but i diddent found a tutorial for making bariers who is willing to help me??? :???: :???: :???: :???: :???: :???: :???:

(carnage) #2

give more inofmation about your problem if you want someone to answer it. a player barrier? a tank barrier… rebuildable barrier. a barier like a door that opens and closes?

(EterneX) #3

what kind of barriers do you want?

invisable bariers!?

(Loffy) #4

hi luuklag, check out EB’s example pk3, maybe it is something for you?:
http://home.earthlink.net/~et_tutorials/construct.pk3
//L.

or just put up a clip brush. That will stop people.

really now … is it that hard to include a little more information? I’m having a hard time reading your mind thru the internet

(EB) #6

Well, I just updated the script in the construct.pk3. It had some left over code from a map I made and that leftover code confused someone. So I removed everything that did not matter as to avoid anymore confusion on the matter.

@ Iffy…u tell em! I think it is 3-4 times a week this forum tells people to EXPLAIN MORE & BETTER & MORE BETTER!!!

(FireFly) #7

I agree, I completely ignore posts that do not contain any information whatsoever. Reason is not that I don’t want to help, but without any proper info the problem could be anything and I would like to give a proper solution, not a guess…

(carnage) #8

that way new ppl will find it very hard to get into the forum, granted they should read the rules but newbs are clules

maby we can get a pre writen message to just post to threads like this or something

top marks for effort though as he has searched the forum at least and thats more than many

Paraphrased from my FAQ:

Help, my Radiant has fallen down and can’t get up!
My best source for information has been the Splash Damager Forums and a few others. The group as a whole is very knowledgable and helpful. However, you gotta help us help you.

  1. First, please do not post your question in multiple forums. Most people check the forums on a regular basis. Someone will be around to answer your question. “But what’s the harm?”, you ask. The only person that this hurts is you. If you post in multiple forums, it’s hard to keep track of your posts. Often, finding a solution is a collaborative effort with everyone pitching in. Help them out.

  2. Provide as much information about your problem as possible. After all, you would never see your doctor and tell him, “I hurt. Make me feel better.” Provide the following info:

  • As much detail about what you are trying to accomplish and how it should execute
  • What you have already tried
  • A description of what goes wrong. Especially helpful are any error messages you get. A lot of people can tell you what’s wrong based on the error messages – that’s why they’re there
  • Screenshots or code to show what is going wrong and what you have
  1. Don’t be a butthead. People are there to help and are doing it for free. Appreciate that and be gracious about it. After all, we’re looking to help out, and maybe find another high-caliber mapper in the process.

Carnage: I understand your point but my comment was towards EB saying:

@ Iffy…u tell em! I think it is 3-4 times a week this forum tells people to EXPLAIN MORE & BETTER & MORE BETTER!!!

and not towards luuklag.

I totally agree with you that ignoring every post from a newbie or first time poster would result in them having a hard time getting into this forum…

It’s just, and again this is not towards luuklag but on a general note, that I still asume that if you’re a mapper (newbie or not) and you encounter a problem you
a) do a search here on the forums or at google and
b) provide at least some sort of information.
A famous quote is: “my car broke down, what caused it?” Like I said before, I’d like to help anyone here on the forum but I can’t without some proper info…

(Ifurita) #11

It not just aimed at new mappers, but experienced mappers too. With experienced mappers, we tend to either have more complex problems or simple oversights, so the more information we can provide, the easier it is for someone else to help find the fix.

(luuklag) #12

ok i want to make a truck/tank barier to stop the truck and the tank with so wire in front of it so people cant walk true.

(carnage) #13

look at goldrush .map and script

to make it easier slect all the barrier and entities atached to it, hit “I” then delete and only the barrier will be left

(luuklag) #14

ok this part i understand but the next 2 in need to be constructed is it the same as aboven but then with the origin brush etc. :???: :???:

(EB) #15

luuklag, no more 30% questions anymore…right ?

what language do you speak luuklag ? - maybe someone can translate your question into english.

(nUllSkillZ) #16

Origin brushes have to be part of entities made of brushes.
So every barrier needs an origin brush.

You could also copy both barriers of the goldrush map.

(dark-tim) #17

lol… luuklag speaks dutch… me to

(Floris) #18

(dark-tim) #19
