As the selfarming mines are now a bit to powerfull we should talk about how to make them more balanced. I think mines in W:ET and ET:QW did it right. At the moment you can drop mines during infight and get easy frags with them. Maybe we should go back to the old way of arming mines to make them not that spammy like it is now.
balancing mines
I think arming the mines manually would help alot. Atm engis just run around drop mines everywhere and run away. U cant do much against it.
Manually arming would give the mines a more defensive role because u can only arm them when no enemies are close and would help to balance them.
Also the mines shouldn’t blow up instantly… they should be mostly killing the guys behind the one who triggers them.
I didn’t vote, but would like to see mines be a “feature” which can be turned off as a server side setting.
I don’t understand why so many people protest about mines exploding immediately?!
Stepped onto a mine - blame yourself and freaking die alredi! If they don’t explode like now, with manual arming they will be hardly used because anyone would avoid them, even if running carelessly. I am dying on mines A LOT, but so what? They are supposed to kill, else why bother using them. Perhaps playing engie a bit more will help to understand that!
Regarding the manual arming - I voted yes. This should be imho given a try and checked how it impacts the gameplay.
I agree, I believe every action we do should require us to stop and hit at a minimum 2 keys. I mean we already stop sprinting to blink these days why make the game smoother when we can make it chunkier than Rosie O at Golden Corral.
Because I prefer the mechanic that if you step on a mine it beeps, but doesn’t explode until you get off it, this way you have a chance to diffuse it and save your life, with the downside of being exposed and vulnerable whilst doing so.
Well both things are not mutually excluding. Why not, let engie disarm enemy mines while standing on them, but as soon as one steps off a mine, it then goes boom immediately.
1 mine armed by hand and then tossed.
upgrade 2 mines.
2nd upgrade self arming
detonate a fraction of a second after you step off to give a slim chance of diving round a corner to live. but not as much as it was.
no disarming.
players tag on mine.
I have some ideas for mines I will post soon, but a lot of these ideas seem to be just convoluting the situation instead of dealing directly with the problem. With all these ideas together it is almost as if you’re creating a mine mini-game.
I prefer self arming, since you don’t have a lot like in previous titles I think it would be tedious to have to arm them. I am big fan of allowing disarming though. Allows the player to be sneaky + a chance to survive. Placing a mine in a doorway as defense they have to blow it up to pass, thus warning you in the process. With disarming you could keep the element of surprise. (It should still make a clicking noise when it’s triggered, but that’s a lot less alarming than an explosion)
I’d much rather have mines slow than explode like they do now if I had a choice. ETQW did mines very well, but they were mostly easy to avoid because of the faster speeds and clear visuals. The game really plays out much differently on Camden than the stock alpha maps though. The ones in public rotation are the actual source of a lot of problems that get discussed regarding the overall game, when a lot of times they are map specific. The more I play Camden the more my view on certain things changes.
selft arming …got other things to do more important than loosing my time arming mines
Mines in etqw weren’t really a factor.
When you died to them, you felt it was your own fault because they were quite easy to spot and avoid.
edit: Also rarely did you ever see them in random places in the middle of nowhere. They were either in the doorways, or on the objective itself.
Dont play engie then…
Same problem as usual to me, mines are OP, so douchy douchy will abuse them on a server just to have fun, it has the benefit of showing that at the moment they are OP, but like the knife, the medic, etc, each built bring his vomit of abusers
