@Amerika_KC If you’re a chef running a restaurant, and everyone tells you your food tastes awful because you added too much salt, you don’t tell them why they’re wrong and how they’re spreading myths, you take their view into consideration. Whether or not the salt was actually the problem, it’s what your customers perceive as the problem.
You don’t have to act so condescending. While it is skewed, it’s not outright wrong. And it needs to be taken into consideration, because this is almost every new player’s first impression of the game. Balanced match ruined by skilled player. Sure, you can go tell them how they’re wrong and that they should just suck it up, or that the food is just as salty elsewhere, but what customers think of your product is important to know. Rather than blame perceived imbalance on people “spreading myths”, SD should be taking note of exactly what new players think of the game. Because skewed or not, it’s what they see. And any company should want their product to be seen as good.
The phrase, “the customer is always right” isn’t supposed to mean the customer is literally always correct, it means a customer’s view doesn’t come from nowhere. You shouldn’t tell them why they’re wrong and stupid, you should attempt to understand why they see the product as they do.
Besides, in general higher level players are far better than lower level players. While it doesn’t automatically mean “good”, it’s fairly rare to see a lower level player doing better than a higher level player.
Sorry, but this isn’t a restaurant and I approach this subject from an engineering viewpoint where fact reigns supreme over a person’s feelings. You don’t use myths and incorrect viewpoints and perceptions as fact even if you feel like they might matter. This is not a politics nor is it food.
If people keep being told that skill is based on a player’s time then people keep repeating it. It’s one of the most common things you see in every game that has viewable account levels. Instead of trying to fix the problem using means that actually work, like measuring skill correctly, you put a bandaid on it by using levels. Which punishes players who aren’t very good but have played a lot because they are expected to carry newer players against really good players of lower level than they.
Also, level is being considered. But at a certain threshold levels simply stop mattering. For some it might be level 10 and then they never get any better or barely will get any better even if they play to 100. Some might play until 25 and never care about the game. Then all of a sudden get serious about learning the game. Some might never get serious about learning it or they simply can’t for one reason or another. That’s why you should use actual numbers that come from performance to balance matches as opposed to factoring in something like levels. Levels shouldn’t even be shown to other players while in a public match of any kind (pub or ranked…they aren’t in ranked and haven’t been for a long time). It simply feeds into the issue.
I am not a part of SD. I am just a player who has been around for a long time and has played many games and this is one topic that always comes up in every single “balance” thread. Usually others squash the notion before I get there but not this time. I do not mean any offense in my post but it’s an extremely common viewpoint that needs to be stopped and it should be a community effort.
