I think the thing with this issue is that there are 3 elements that - when combined - are broken.

Aura and Proxy both have the smallest hitboxes.
Aura and Proxy both have the highest speed. Thus making them both the best at evading incoming fire.
Aura and Proxy both have the shotgun as a default weapon.
Aura has her healing station which is perfect for ‘peeking’ around corners if her healing station is placed around it.
Proxy has really high repair/placement/etc stuff for objectives.

The shotgun could use a tiny damage nerf, but I think doing any more bad stuff to it would be an overkill. The shotgun has this amazing feature that it’s the easiest to aim of all the weapons. You can also still get your max. DPS out when moving. This is because the shotgun is the only weapon that allows you to move and jump around when using it, because the firerate is way lower than that of other weapons.

To break the OP synergy, I would increase the firerate of the shotty. This way it hinders their movement a bit, breaking the perfect synergy. Probably lower the damage a tad as well.

In my thread in which I have a list of things I have an opinion about so far (good or bad) I have a theory about Proxy. I think the devs wanted her to be some kind of nimble, fast, fragile engineer that would always be dashing to the objectives, trying to do/clear/whatever them. What they delivered instead was a monster with the most toxic kit in the game.

I agree with the people claiming that shotguns have to be CQB fast killers. It would not make any sense if this weapon was not able to 2 HTK most of the mercs up to fragger. Right now, even though not all the mercs are available, I’d be interested to buff some smgs rather than nerf everything else. Except the hochfir and possibly the blishlok, every other smgs are quite crappy even in medium range, where they are supposed to be the bread and butter of easy gunfight wins. And I guess I’m not talking of a personal problem. I have not seen any truly good sawbonez since the latest release.

Balance is not a nerf nerf nerf nerf nerf matter. I’ve seen some games where devs followed this nerf nerf nerf nerf nerf fancy their official forums had. Their game got boring because everything slowed down horribly.

Sawbonez has to be unlocked, so assign the frequency of sawbonez to that of vassilis and artys.

Overall I feel just as powerful wtih SMG as with the shotty, and it doesn’t really affect my k/d. The problem with shotguns is how unfun they are to fight against, but this is more due to the mobility of light mercs rather than shotties themselves.

I’m with @spookify on that one: decrease light merc acceleration

yah i have to agree. wait until every character is out. Then talk re-balance if needed for casual play. The whole argument changes for true clan warfare of course.

And make the bouncing mechanics better. TO where you can actully jump on top of something with ease. You should also open up some levels more as well, there was a few areas where I thought I could go but couldn’t. MAKE THE GAME MORE VERTICAL!!!

unsure if this has been said, but the main thing that would balance the shottie is increasing the bullet spread, makes it a true close range weapon instead of this ‘i can drop you from mid range cause its basically a slug’ shit.
i should know i do it all the time lol
