There sometimes are huge differences in the levels between players of both teams, I’ve seen team A have more than double of team B’s levels.
So either team balancing is not implemented at all, or it is broken, or it is based on matchmaking stats. If it is the latter, it’s clearly not working well yet, because I’ve seen teams numerous times not get out of spawn for a whole map.
Whatever it is, please work on it soon!
Balance of teams in matchmaking
I really hope solo-queue-only placement matches plus rank resets will come in future patches.
Matching solo-queue-es vs premade teams will never give proper rank placements.
I’d also imagine a properly working solo-queue-only matchmaking system would be the most popular game mode in entire DB. Could even be non-ranked, its still hell lot more fun to play 5v5 with people that give a damn; esp. if teams are well balanced.
The point where actual teamplay/strategies/flanking etc. give you win can only be achieved if both teams aren’t lightyears away in pure aim skills. This is the sweet spot where DB matches are epic, being able to consistently provide that experience is imo DB’s holy grail.
Things I’d like matchmaking to have:
-
solo queue only mode for ‘ultimate tryhard templayers’. Unranked (no visible rank, but still ELO based). You want casual players to be unafraid and try to have fun. Would probably benefit from some rep-system though, to weed out griefers. I don’t think this is a major problem though, I’d much rather take good chances on having a balanced 5v5, than present pubs where the majority of the games are boring steamrolls (one way or the other)
-
ranked mode for premades - you could still solo-queue in that mode, but it would be highly discouraged, as a premade of 5 will always have advantage over 4+1 or 3+2).
Why is this separation preferable? Because atm. a premade of 5 will absolutely destroy solo-queues, and unlike CSGO, the destruction is ultimate and merciless. If you stumble upon a premade in CSGO you will be disadvantaged - but you can put up a fight. Premade in DB is a brick wall that you slam your face against for 15mins, or a steamroll of your defences (though this scenario is at least quick). In CSGO you can still win your 1on1s, make nice clutch playes; etc. In DB any kill you make is insta-revived; longer TTK means that ambushes are met with quick resistance of multiple enemies, etc. etc.
- faster-changing ranks (kind of like hearthstone: few wins - promotion; few loses - demotion) if rank is more dynamic it is more likely that people will start hovering around their actual skill lvl. Atm. its a huge mess, with silvers that own everyone, and golds that don’t know basics. I’d say 1 in 4 games in MM presently is actually between similarly-skilled teams.
- fixed bugs: my most annoying ones
- 6v4 situation -I had a scenario where, in a premade of 3, we were waiting for a while for one player to ‘accept’. It was actually my mate who couldn’t ‘accept’ the game as the prompt didnt pop up. When it finally did, we connected to a 4v6 situation, with my mate kicked out of the connection (so it added a random 11th person to the game, lol
- multitude of disconnects - i’d say about 50% of the games has a random player d/c ; even if some of those are genuine ragequits, I see a lot of these coming back to the server a bunch of minutes later, but by that point the game is already spoiled
- multitude ‘accept’-sprees when trying to find a game
