"Balance" differences between competitive and pubs?

So I was wondering what opinions people have about the idea of there being a differences between competitive and pubs such as ability cooldowns considering that competitive is 5v5 and pubs up to 8v8. If anything, fire support abilities could have higher cooldown in pubs since there have been more or less complaining about the fire support spam.

Honestly the only thing I’d change is spawn waves, and the EV health.

Both should scale to the number of players in the server. So when you kill someone in an 8v8 it actually means something. And the EV doesn’t die to a single airstrike when there’s 3 effing Skyhammers in the game at a time.

FF should be on also, only one type of merc per team as well.

love the team balance when I play competitive though, but I mainly play solo, since I don’t know to many people here atm.

seems most people are playing 7v7 and 8v8’s just because they can get a higher overall score and/or get carried easier (just me thought anyway)

Edit/Afterthought. I prefer 5v5 or 6v6 personally, anything higher just feels too chaotic. but high Vs’s servers seem to be more popular I find :frowning:

I mean, it’s a pub.
There’s always competitive.

I think yes, it could work, but i voted maybe because i’d rather have SD working on other stuff, such as things that actually keep the game fun to play between updates.

No. This game is advertised as “highly competitive and fast paced shooter”, they officially have said to make balances around the stopwatch and 5v5 format and this should remain this way at all cost.
The problem isn’t that that public is “imbalanced” but much rather the fact that they’re running 8vs8 objective servers as opposed to the gamemode and format the game is supposed to be balanced around.

8v8 is the most fun pub mode for me since the game revolves around hop on hop off servers. It just doesnt matter that much if someone is missing and people miss a lot in dirty bomb with the artificially extended connection times via lobbies etc.

You also cant completely dominate a server that hard as in 6v6 or comp mode. Brings more fun to all involved and not only the guy going rampage over some poor noobs.

Sure, I dont want to see the same happen as with ETQWs promod. While “the comp players” liked it, many players didnt due to the extreme guns “the community” designed. The delicate weapon balance with damage fall off etc. was ruined and exchanged for deathrays doing almost full damage across the map with almost no spread at all. I cant say I enjoyed camping the spawns in Sewer or Island more in 4v4 that on 8v8 pub. It sucked both.

Ok, this discussion is as old as SD… We cant do everything just for hardcore comp games. It ends with no community left to play the game. I know you didnt propose it and I know you got some common sense. Id just like people to keep in mind how few like SW and despise the endless bordom too many matches provide. Its a great comp mode, but it sucks for a f2p game.

Doesnt mean everything has to be “catered to the noobs” but keep a bit of a balance instead of going hardcore.

Voted before I read this, and I can agree with that. I just don’t want merc abilities to be affected, that’s just stupid. But more HP on EV and longer spawns make sense because 8vs8 is fucking terrible. I pretty much exclusively play 6vs6 because of this.

Anyone who thinks the airstrikes should be nerfed clearly never played against a team of level 4 field ops in Enemy Territory on campaign mode :wink:

Those fieldops had an shared airstrike cooldown. I am missing your point.

in my 200+ hours i may have 10 hours of casual play. Every time I play casual the same thing happens.

  • I join a obj game, its 5v3 (i’m the 4th) and the EV is 2/3 the way there and its only been 2 minutes.

  • Inevitably we lose even though we are pretty fairly matched up you just can’t defend a last objective that long.

  • The server empties out

  • Rinse & repeat every map

  • I join a stopwatch game, its 5v3 (i’m the 4th) and the EV is 2/3 the way there and its only been 2 minutes.

  • Inevitably they complete the last objective even though we are pretty fairly matched up you just can’t defend a last objective that long.

  • We switch sides and are now faced with a sub 5 minute time to beat and each team is full strength now.

  • We eventually lose

  • The server empties out

  • Rinse & repeat every map

To me, this is what needs to be addressed. Maybe add in a xp multiplier for staying in the same server or same team for consecutive maps (seems people love their imaginary xp) maybe a credit multiplier (1.2x -> 1.4x -> 1.5x cap) or a bonus 1000(xp or credits) X the number of maps consecutively played. If you play 10 maps on the same server, thats 10k credits, who wouldn’t stick around for that :wink:

Well, now that SD has been doing some changes to instagibs, I would definitely change my vote.
Recent changes for competitive and keep instagbs in pubs.
