Bad ping on nearest server

(eliii) #1

Hello,
I just played ranked on a server from Frankfurt and had a ping of 170-220 (usually 30ish) and it was hardly playable. I checked my connection, but there was nothing wrong, so after the match I opened the server browser and saw that every Frankfurt server calculated a ping of 170+ while Stockholm was 55 (which seems alright).

I can’t remember encountering this problem before and I live much closer to Frankfurt so this is a bit odd. Every other player on the ranked match had a stable and low ping. How is that? Is there anything I can do or is it the game’s/server’s fault?

I could play fine one day later but it’s back again (didn’t play inbetween), and also hit two others:

I can still stick to Stockholm, London servers but I can’t play ranked like that because I can only choose between Europe, Asia and NA there or so.

Any help?

There could be temporary connection issue with your and their ISP. Perhaps they (ISP) are using backup connection that links you better to Stockholm than Frankfurt. Perchance there is regional problem with POP or NAP. It could be servers fault, but I doubt it. Maybe you are a test subject for their ping balance research, who knows.

I don’t know, I mean I don’t understand some of that, but I had similar issues 7 or so years ago in ET with one specific server host. Every other server host I never had problems with, except one which raised my ping to 180 or so.
Now it’s the same, no problems with any other server in any of the other games I play (Rocket League, CSGO, ET, so I think I’ve played on a great variety of server locations over the last months), just on DB Frankfurt.

Anyways, I’m hoping for some solution, either something in my settings, or the game could change servers or allow to tick specific locations in ranked just like in the server browser…
