Backpacks and Classes

(iFork) #1

Wouldn’t it be much more convenient and easier for everyone if each class gets a different backpack?

Eg:
Medic: A faction coloured backpack with a medic cross at the back
Soldier: The standard backpack with grenades
Engineer: A workpack with tools sticking out
Operative: A small black pack

What do you think?

(light_sh4v0r) #2

Yes, or we got rid of all clothing customisation and forced a colour and clothing set based on selected class.
I’m being serious, before someone sees this as a sarcastic stab at the OP.

(iFork) #3

Are you being sarcastic? Because unlike costume customization the backpack is forced onto your character.

(Apoc) #4

well sd wont change the clothing to class specific. Would be good however, if each class say had a band round their arm with a class symbol, and yes as OP said, symbol on their backpack aswell. Targeting the obj class in etqw was a very nice tactic and lead to the defending team shielding their obj classes also.

(tangoliber) #5

To be honest, I don’t think about things like that. I just adapt to whatever the game is.

For instance, even though other class based shooters make it so that you can recognize classes easily, I just assume that in Brink we aren’t meant to recognize classes easily.

Though, I usually make a mental note of the classes of each enemy I come across at the start of a round…(Which is why a team that uses identical uniforms and similar names would have something of an advantage.)

lol, I edited the second line in as you replied
I mean it though, the customisation is largely irrelevant imo.

actually this was meant to be in the game!!!

funny youmention it

the only change now is your gloves and only you can see that

(zenstar) #8

Do you not see an icon over the enemies head with his class?
I’m pretty sure that’s how I pick up what class needs to go down first (medics).

agreed.

to above regarding forced outfits. customisation looks great but many times ive been killed as i thought the enemy was one of my own. double edged sword i guess

really ?? ^ they glow red! makes it pretty difficult to miss them. plus by default you dont see a health bar.

and the color schemes for each make them look completly different

Somewhat shocked it went 7 posts before somebody pointed this out!

It was an interesting idea, but you tend to see the front of the enemy a lot more than their backside…

(light_sh4v0r) #12

It’s not only useful for enemies…

not every one stalks you as much as i do >.>

really though where did i see this??

i mean before the game out i was lurkin the webs for id say an hour every day for new information (you guys really had this game on lockdown)

did anyone else notive the gloves? im not so sure many people would notice minute changes of this sort

the red glow doesnt always work. i have also had a teammate standing behind an enemy who was in a shadow, so i could see my teammate’s icon and everything.

shadows make games look better but far harder to play on IMO. thats why all pro gamers use low res and all the eye candy off. much easier to play on!

(TheDuplex) #16

i like the idea with the different backpacks! it would be a little gimmick!

(Sono) #17

I guess I don’t really understand why each class would need a backpack when targeting anyone, even for a split second, in a game shows their class icon above the name. I mean,…it’s obviously not TF2 where it’s blindingly obvious as to who is playing what, but it seems like you’re able to figure it out pretty quickly on your own without the need for new graphics.

(zenstar) #18

Agreed. I don’t think specialized backpacks would add much. I’m not actively against them except for the fact that there are other things SD should work on first. But if it’s a 5 minute job then /shrug. Most of us will still primarily ID our enemies via the icon.

How can people check out my cool Fallout back tattoos if they are covered with a backpack!?!?

Seriously though, I find the backpacks more distracting than anything else. I always figured it indicated the person had increased supply or extra ammo or something. Never even considered that it was to make it easier to identify Security and Resistance.

It doesn’t really make any sense, if the enemy is facing me I can’t see the backpack anyway and if I’m behind the enemy he’s already dead. If I’m behind a teammate I’ll take a second to check instead of just opening fire.

I agree, backpacks can ruin the look you work hard to create. Sucks when you have a whole color scheme goin and the backpack totally throws it off or as you said you have full body tatoos and cant see them in the game. Atleast make backpacks with some customization or something.

I mean its not the biggest deal or anything but just an annoyance at times especially since you create characters without backpacks so you never know for sure how its gonna look till you get in game. Wouldnt mind an option to not have them at all but can understand why they are there and how it would look silly without, although why not allow us to carry gear on other places of body all together.
