Axis Revenge announced

Axis Revenge will be a tactical, class based, multiplayer first person shooter set in the second world war. It bases on the XreaL Engine (a Quake3 based Game Engine). Axis Revenge wants to achieve and improve the yet unique gameplay of the popular Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory game, while basing on an alternative history with creative new content and settings.

The project has its roots in the W:ET and RTCW community, which is the reason why this thread is posted right here.
In this early stage of development you should not expect too much insight or details of our concept as alot is still subject to change in further development.

As these project announcements tend to be misunderstood we want to make a few things clear right away:[ul][li]Axis Revenge will not be a simple port with gfx enhancements. It will be a new game combining keyparts of ET/RTCW and different new features
[/li][li]It is not our goal to “kill” the active ET community, but to develop a fun and competetive game[/ul]

maybe you should first cook with water and salt only. i doubt that you will be able to achieve the same level as enemy territory lol.

nothing against that, but see…you are all noobs in game development. and at that level, with nothing on your portfolio, you wanna compare yourself with such a great game.

if you forget all that theres hardly anything left to do :stuck_out_tongue: Some codework obviously and all kinds of things. The engine is basically ready and just needs some changes

you’ve still misunderstood :wink: Basically alot of ppl expect projects like this try to steal away players from ET, which is not our real intention

so… is there any chance to see a working game? u can play on any map, i just want to see how it’s going to look, what are the current features, cause there was a lot of threads where people were ‘making a mod’ and then they never released it…

for now it’ll pretty much stay private (unfortunately). So unless someone contributes he will not see much of it until theres some kind of a release or test candidate. This has several reasons which we had to learn in different prior projects within the ET community. Basically this is to find a few more developers and to make clear that someone is developing this idea, which some others might have in mind aswell.

so, is this an IDEA for a game/mod, or already working product?

i don’t see much point of contributing into this, without seeing the work from inventors… not to mention wasted time on potential content for it, and then - not a surprise - this gets cancelled, due to lack of time, skill etc… it happend to many mods here.

Its a standalone game and its a work-in-process.
And as with any game, there is that risk but without contributors these kind of games get cancelled.

the project exists since ~october 2009 when we started on the planning & concept. Until now we made major progress, so no this is nothing like an IDEA

I like the models you have previewed, made me smile. But I have to agree with the mod might die. So many good mods, etc, were being made for 2 years (that’s pretty long for a mod :P) But I really like the idea and the standalone ability (I just hope you change the ports from 27960 (or it would be funny :P) ) But, good luck!

the ports don’t depend on the game mostly, but also on the providers, however the ports won’t be 27960 as every game has it’s own idea.
As to indyjones his comments, the gae hs been in development for over 6 months, we already have enough content ready to feel confident to announce the project, why else would we want to announce it?:slight_smile:
also, it is a standalone game, so no need to download anything else, all content is available for developers, and we are in need of mappers, however, ACTIVE mappers as we don’t want this game to die.

well, i think users won’t contribute into something they do not like… therefore, u should show some gameplay, tell us about features etc…

but i’d love to see cod-style hardcore mode and iron sight. deathmatch and tdm would be also nice.

Well, considering you do not have ET’s source. It will automatically be 27960… The standalone part is simple… Well, I am probally wrong but ill see it when I see it.
