Avoc's HQ Skyboxes & demos

(u_ny) #1

Hi guys, first, my knowledge of mapping and modding is very limited, so, here’s the thing:
i managed to replace Oasis’s sky with one of Avoc’s HQ skyboxes, trough oasis.script using remapshader.
(Thanks to Berzerkr to have shared his example.)

It’s working nicely on a local server, but when I play a demo, the sky is the default one.
How can I do to see the HQ skies while playing a demo ?

I don’t know if it’s of any help, but, the demo was recorded with an “unmoded” Oasis.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Pack all the skybox’s files and the script into a pk3 file (remember to keep the folder structures). Then name the pk3 so it comes alphabetically after pak0.pk3. A lot of ppl add zzz_ in front of the name, so forexample zzz_new_oasissky.pk3 would do it.

Then add the pk3 file into etmain or your mod’s folder.

If I remember correct, you still have the siwa_sun in the skybox.
You have to define a shader for an empty transparent TGA (or is there a better solution wich needs no extra texture?) and then replace the shader of the sun with remapshader.

Then sun is added via sunshader line on skies_sd/sd_siwasky. So it should not be there once you remapshadered skies_sd/sd_siwasky.

Thanks for your help guys, things working good so far.
I’ve edited the map’s sky shader to get what I wanted, and packed it in a pk3.

I have another issue, I’m trying to replace Frostbite’s sky, unfortunatly, there is no sky shader to edit…
Any clues ?

Thanks again.

Probably because frostbite uses the goldrush sky.

Yes, indeed, I’ve tried to edit frosbite.shader, and obviously, I had to edit skies.shader.
Thanks.

Oh, great job with your skies, by the way. Very inspiring.

Skies.shader… In the PAK0 ?

I hope not because you should never edit pak0! :open_mouth:

Grtz:tongue:

Use remapshader, then you can define different skies for different maps.
Otherwise you have only the same new sky instead of the old one.

As I said in the fisrt post, i can’t make it work using remapshader when playing a demo.
Would be great do it that way, but i managed to make it work by editing the shaders directly, quick and dirty, but it works.

I don’t really get why the remapshader way doesn’t work with demos though, as I do that for moviemaking, it’s quite anoying.

remapshader is part of the demo.
The remapshader commands are recorded. Probably it has no need for the mapscript to play the demo.
