I was wondering if there were going to be any avatar awards available to try and unlock on the Xbox 360 version of Brink, seeing as not many new games have them. If you do decide to add them, PLEASE DO NOT MAKE CRAPPY T-Shirt AVATAR AWARDS, no one wears them!
Avatar awards ( 360 ver )
Lol well for the people that are going to buy this on Xbox they areng going to turn down content. The poll was a bit unnecessary. However I would like to see devs of all games putting a little more into stuf like this where they can. Obviously the game its self is much much much more important but its nice unlocking stuf
I think such things should be in the collector’s edition, Tapir pet for everyone buying the $120 version of Brink.
Yes, I want to pimp out my avatar with as much Brink stuff as SD can offer. I have all the free L4D2 goodies unlocked and my Avatar decked out in them.
I will not, however, EVER pay for any Avatar goodies. EVER. If you want me to advertise a product with my avatar, then offer the stuff for free as unlockables.
Offering the stuff for free is just really good PR for the company. It is a fantastically economical way to advertise your product and establish goodwill with the community. “Splash Damage/Bethesda loves us!” Even if they insist on charging for some items, they should still offer some for free.
Indeed. You don’t have to charge for new content to make more money from your game. TF2 on Steam is an excellent example of that. I know that content patches almost always cost money for the developers to put on consoles, but any little thing you distribute for free post-launch goes a long way to assure loyal fans (which in turn leads to new players through word-of-mouth).
I was more referring to adding some value to the “collectors edition” with something you can’t purchase or get awarded in game. Like an exclusive SD T-Shirt Wearing Tapir pet for your Avatar.
Tapir pet is a MUST DO!
Absolutely! That is the thing with the Avatar goodies, though. The Artists can pump that stuff out like nothing. It is a cinch - all items have templates - “making” the t-shirts would literally be selecting the color and pasting a logo on the model. That is all.
They should have a few items available in all games, then, have those and some others in the Special edition, and then even more that you could buy.
I wonder if MS limits what can be free though, as you said it would be very easy to flood free items to advertise a game, a lot cheaper than actual advertising or the lost revenue from selling them. I’m guessing you get an allocation along with the achievement points and number of patches etc.

MS practically forces devs to charge for content. Valve wanted to release content for L4D for free, but MS said, no you have to charge.
DLC seems pretty out in the open, was just wondering about the other limits they impose on developers especially with these little things like Avatar props.
Right now it’s all hands on deck to just get the game done (which is why everyone in the company is at the office on a saturday working
) But we love this kind of stuff and would love to be able to make the time to do some. Time will tell…
Yeah, but for L4D2 they got out a bunch of free t-shirts and even a health pack. All free, all to be unlocked by in-game activities. Slick.
And Rahdo, no worries. The game is far more important (as is an SD presence in these forums). All of you are working massively long hours, I’ve no doubt. Thank you! :stroggtapir: :stroggtapir:
