Auto shuffle end of each round for some obj servers?

(Apples) #1

Hi there,

As a non “uber pro 1337 omgwtf” player I would like to see one server with auto shuffle at the end of each maps, it is less obvious now but with the autojoin system and the non intuitive switch between teams I find that the teams are often stacked as hell, and even if gettin rolled get you better etc etc (this is usually heard from people in a good team or who never really had hard time playing because they were good from the start, funny isnt it?) I would like to enjoy a bit more the maps.

I dont know, don’t take that as a mindless rant as I’m usually not really “mad” when I lose and I love the challenge, but sometimes a decent match with equal teams (I’m not talking bout comp obviously) can bring more fun than a rollercoaster where you dont even have the time to take positions or adapt because you get shot from 3 directions everytime you get out of your spawn.

I think auto shuffle (only for obj servers) can do the trick.

Reminder : I’m talking about the alpha stage only here, and only for objective servers, I’m here to test the game (aka “play the damn game and give your impressions”) and so far many times my impressions are : “god dammit I dont even have the time to concentrate on the feeling and the input I receive from the game because the teams are so unba we cant set a proper defence”, or attack for that matters. I cant tell which map are too biased because of the inherent bias of the teams, I cant really tell if the guns are too strong or not because with unba team its not 1V1 but usually 3V1, and I think that reducing the variability in the skill difference by autoshuffle (the more you sample, the lesser the variance, math 101) can help improving some feedbacks in alpha stage.

If it’s not implemented I wont suddenly roll over and sob and will still play the best I can (which is really close to the absolute zero), but I think it can be a great asset for testing purposes.

Your thought? (the “learn to play” guys can indeed gtfo, the others can discuss)

It’s alpha pub after all. I’ll swap teams mid-game if it’s imba!!! Can’t gloat over winning stacked games anyways :D, especially pubs. People just practicing for dat DB world cup and stats leader board next week teehee!! In a serious note, were all testers and most everyone knows each other. It can’t be that hard for people to try and make for balanced games… or is it muaha!

The problem is that we all know each other  I can tell (with an accuracy of 95%) which team will win the game at the beginning of the map… The thing is, swapping team is so counter intuitive that balancing can be a pain in teh a**, a shuffle will ensure that on the long run, most games havent been super stacked, indeed as it is random you’ll still have super duper stacked games, but on the long run the mean “teamskill” difference might be reduced, you can also weigh the shuffle by the KDR or XP of the previous round, but that bring some other flaws.

Most games can be balanced in warmup, but I do agree with you that there’s not a very convenient method of doing it mid-game. If I am on a pretty imba team, I usually try and play something weaker or just harder. Why be a cookie cutter fraggn medic when I can challenge myself with some CQC sniper eh? I’m probably just used to playing on the losing side though haha.

The elephant in the room  As another nubpub player on the wrong end of yet another stack I did have a rant at a few players the other night (I had had a few beers too many, apologies if I threw my toys out of the pram a bit much - I guess so as I had a game last night and found I’d hit a few nerves and some OPknife™ e-bullying lollage kicked in from a couple of players who shalt not be named. The teams were pretty even though ;).

Having read some of the comments in the Nda? thread, there are a few pro players who are out there to get as good at the game as possible, rather than test the game for bugs etc. and I can’t blame them entirely for that - they are doing this for a living and want to get the edge. They are also in a unique position to be able to promote the game. Its actually been pretty cool to have the opportunity in this alpha to take some of them on and fight along side them as well.

Its probably just as annoying for the pros to have us nubs cluttering up the team so another reason to stick together maybe, but at least they are getting a few scrims going now so can have some more serious games in peace. Comp vs pubs has always been a bit ‘jocks vs nerds’ - when we get more players the two parties can naturally form their own collectives, but right now we don’t always have enough and have this sometimes uneasy coexistence ;).

I agree that a shuffle option would be great.

However, I’ve noticed a few times that two teams that should be pretty equal due to the occasional good diversity of skill levels, (I really don’t want to use that term here yet, but it gets the point across) one of them just get overrun.

The reason being there aren’t any real tactics yet. White Chapel last night, really balanced teams, but we just couldn’t get out of the first area when attacking. Reason being people we’re just doing “their thing” instead of thinking “Right, they’re up there, I should go here to help them out”.

Nothing wrong with it, but with the game being really new without any core basic tactics and map designs not finished, the results will be very random.

Back on topic
Yes, a shuffle option would be great.

Most of the times it’s because of the akward auto-join and players balance by themselves shortly after they joined.
But I do agree that sometimes people switch teams to join the winning one or to stack with their friends, it ends with a steamroller on one side and people leaving during or after the map because of the frustration.

I am in favor of a team shuffle option asap.
.

A little more self-esteem please, you’re far from being a bad player.

That’s another issue for me, sometimes people just want to play for the virtual ladder and their KDR (which if I remember correctly was debated in another thread) instead of the objectives. It’s not that big of a deal but it’s just upsetting when so few care about the goal while the rest is in a TDM roaming mindset.

dont do autoshuffle its annoying and should be replaced with admins having the tool to proper admin server incl having some sort of shuffle command

He didn’t meant it as a definitive perk for release.
