Auto balance before the start for Stopwatch?

(Potato_Ladder) #1

Stopwatch is usually the game mode I play the most due to the fact that I like completing all objectives in a limited time, but there’s one thing that make me cringe, the balance. It’s darn common to see a team of skilled players stacked together on one team and pressing F2 when there’s a vote to shuffle. So for the sake of balance, I humbly request, to the devs, that there be the before of the match auto balance like Objective mode.

I’m all ears what you all got in mind, as long as it’s on topic.

No point, casual match-making is being worked on and will essentially be exactly that. :stuck_out_tongue: No team shuffling, just balanced matches right from the very start.

No idea how they’ll do balancing. It’s not like they track skill like in ranked and levels are not a direct indication of skill.

(Potato_Ladder) #4

I do hope it’s skill and region based and not ping because people in my country are more toxic than The Glowing Sea in Fallout 4 and talking to them only leads to them insulting and attempt to humiliate you and no they don’t speak a interpretable English.

For now I prefer the server browser until there’s more details on the match making system.

Actually you have it backwards as far as I know. Ranked does not track skill, but ELO. Current casual tracks some metric of skill.

There is a skill tracking system for pubs. They give you an ELO based on your last 25 games played on pubs that is separate from your MM rank. So when the game does sorting it does it based on making each teams match total ELO ranks. Which is why sometimes you see those screenshots from people where a level 25, level 34 and level 50 were put on the same team against some people who are lower level on the other team. Because those players, despite their time played, do not have a higher pub ELO rating than players on the other side with less time played in their last 25 games.

Tnx for the insight Amerika. Loved to see that pub ELO on my screen as an added feature

That would be pretty awesome, imo. Would stop people from crying over level imbalances.

Oh, People will still whine about it, games will be slightly better though.

(doxjq) #10

That’s a fair point actually. Will the new match making system have region selection? I assume it would for the sake of common sense, but you never know.

(AnonOmis1000) #11

It should already be that way. I cant count the number of times high ping europeans have connected to US servers.

(Tannimun) #12

Why not just remove stopwatch and only have ranked? It’s the exact same game mode, only thing it would do would be to reduce que times and make for more balanced games. People that want to play casual and come and go as they want can still play objective or excecution. There is no point in having casual stopwatch. Having the main game mode as competitive only works great for every other game, like cs, and I think it would work great for Dirty Bomb too.

(l2c) #13

Well, for one, ranked is friendly fire, which is horrible. I like stopwatch for the sole reason that even if the teams are awful, it’s not over hella-fast. Usually atleast. Objective mode with unbalanced teams just turns into more menu than gameplay, which is meh.

(Melinder) #14

If you ask me, casual match-making will cause an increase in imbalanced games. Within the region I play casual in, most of the high skill players have eachother added and regularly play together. So I can foresee games in the future being 6 high skilled players with a lot of experience partying up.

I brought up in Discord yesterday the possibility of leaving a few of the Min Level servers up so that people could congregate on those servers who wanted to.

SERVER HOSTING - SERVER HOSTING - SERVER HOSTING - SERVER HOSTING

Once people hosting servers start building their own communities a lot of these grievances go away as they self-regulate.

(FalC_16) #17

how do you achieve that when players leave and join throughout the match?

This.
And I know they don’t want to release the server binaries, which is understandable since it could be abused to manipulate levels and whatnot, but allow people to rent your servers and gain admin rights, so communities can self-moderate.

Exedore said on stream that he’d like to build a community. Well, that doesn’t work if there’s no ‘home’ for clans, or any form of meeting ground.

This has been my argument for almost a year now. And it seems that we are finally going to get exactly those options. No clue when but they did say it was a priority so within a few months would be reasonable. Community servers would fix a ton of things and also provide a home to players that will help feed the often floundering competitive community and it definitely would not hurt f2p retention rates.

(MTLMortis) #20

We would also get our own balancing, cheat detection and ban lists put in above and beyond the in-game stuff.
