Authentication Failure

I can’t seem to get into the game, I keep getting the “authentication_failure” when I launch it. I was playing fine just the other day. Searching the forums I kept seeing that it’s firewall, but I turned all firewalls off and any antivirus is off (as I don’t like active virus protection since it seems to slow down the computer more than a virus would).

I started getting this today after trying to get on with my work computer with the same result. I get home now and find out I have the same issue here. Suggestions?

Yes seriously, that was the second place I checked after the forums. Didn’t see anything (because why post, I don’t know, an announcement about it), nor did I get an email. But let’s get really upset about it, that’s obviously the rational next step.

Here is the announcement that was also emailed last week: Matchmaking Mayhem & Limited Edition Reward Inbound!

There was also a second email on Monday:

I have no idea why you think I am upset. I am just amazed that you missed the message (or even found your way to the game this weekend) as it was all over, on serveral forums, in your mail, in the ‘news’ and even in-game, not to mention the half-a-dozen forums threads about auth. fail. and its causes in the past month.

  1. Didn’t get the email (and yes, i checked spam)
  2. In the post announcing the update, it says something like “This service will be available for these time frames” leading me to believe it’s about the matchmaking, not the game itself.
  3. Searching for authentication failure in the forums only brought up I’m missing an update or port/firewall issues. Nowhere after a considerable search time of ~15 minutes did I come up with “hey, the game is down”
  4. The error message itself is unhelpful and leads me to believe it’s something on my end

So tell me, what exactly is so baffling to you that you are “amazed” I missed it? And if you have “no idea” why your statement might be portrayed as at the very least disproportionately condescending, then I cannot help you.

The current error message isn’t great, sorry for the confusion with that and thanks for the report!

We’re working on better messaging for when it’s offline :slight_smile:
