Australia AND Asia taken out of ranked?

(doxjq) #21

Lmao so I just found my first game of ranked under this new system.

My ping, 240ms. My team mate from Australias ping, 280ms. Needless to say against a team of skilled Americans with 40ms ping, we got absolutely slaughtered. Individual battles were just 100% fricken impossible to win.

We also had a team mate using Thunder who was sitting at our own spawn shooting us in the back (but not killing us)

No really, I’m not salty at all, these changes were absolutely brilliant and it’s made me want to play competitive more than ever. /sarcasm

What a total joke. I’m never touching this completely stupid ranked system ever again. Absolutely embarrassing implementation. My level of frustration towards something this incredibly stupid right now is making my head spin. What an absolute waste of time.

(CCP115) #22

They introduced a competitive update, one that would hopefully boost the numbers of people going through ranked, and they disable ranked?

What the fuck?

For those who don’t know, let me tell you a story, about a game called Loadout. Loadout was similar to Dirty Bomb, it was a F2P shooter that made money off microtransactions, and it kind of had a struggling playerbase, in that it wasn’t exploding into the market.

So they decided to shut down their Australian servers. not just ranked, the whole damn thing. No warning. Just one day, gone.

That was it. I was done with that game. i had spent money on it as well, it’s good to know that they then pulled out of the region I paid out of.

I understand that player traffic decides whether or not you continue to have servers in that region, but SD and Edge of Reality both fucked up in not telling their users exactly why, or when, the servers were getting shut down.

Loadout then went on to die a slow, prolonged death. A little sad, as now Edge of Reality is basically gone as well. his should server as a warning to SD.

Blacklight Retribution also sadly removed Australian servers, at least they’re still trucking along.

TL;DR

 1. SD should open up ranked again to actually test to see if player numbers increase.

 2. And if you decide to close down servers, give us a fucking warning. Out of the blue like this? Unacceptable.

I get Oceania is small, but comparing them to America and Europe? Talk about disproportionate.

(CCP115) #23

On a sidenote, we also miss out on those competitive trinkets. Can everyone who ever played a single ranked match in AUS and Asia get a little “You tried” trinket to put on their gun?

(doxjq) #24

The thing is, our player base isn’t small at all. I see more active servers in the evening for Australia than I do in other regions that’s for sure. The other night we had 24 full servers going in the weekend. That’s impressive when you consider our region size compared to America and Europe.

Sure, competitive was small, but that was basically my point - How can they grasp whether or not these changes work if they close down our servers completely? Like how is it a fair test. I don’t understand this logic at all. I can only assume they just figured the Aussies would deal with it and play on the USA servers, but after one game of 240-280ms torture enough was enough, I’m not touching it again until they bring them back.

(TheVulpesFox) #25

And if you think about it, you had 24 full servers. Say they were all 7v7. That’s 336 players all playing at the same time, one moment (we could give or take a few). Then there must be people looking for a match to join. They might not know that there are enough people online to make another couple of matches. That could possibly be around 350-400 players wanting to play on Australian servers all at the same time.
Then maybe some of those said they were going to play comp. I think people would follow and have a go. Encourage each other to search for a match. There might be enough people for 3 matches going to search for a comp game (not to mention anybody who already is).

But know we don’t have one…

(Xan) #26

dumbest idea ever.GJ SD

(SiegeFace) #27

They really should just lock down EU servers to EU players, North america to North america etc, After bringing back Asia and Australia servers and implementing servers in other key regions of course…also ping limit yadada broken record is broken

(Ctrix) #28
Really? Why? Previous numbers shouldn’t be anything to go off if this change is supposed to make all the difference. I thought that was the whole purpose of this update to ranked. Every night I am playing there is literally 15-20 Australian servers all full. We have the player base, there’s no doubt about it.

How are you supposed to grasp how well this change to ranked works if you’ve taken two regions completely out of play? Not everyone is going to play on American servers with 200ms ping

You make a change to ranked to promote more people to play it, then you force two regions to play on the other side of the world with terrible pings if they want to play the mode at all. Seems a little counter-intuitive doesn’t it?
I think the numbers were total players, not ranked players. Correct me if I’m wrong.

(doxjq) #29

We have plenty of players though.

(doxjq) #30

We can’t even make private aus/asia servers any more either? I hope this is temporary. I just noticed this while trying to organise a private 10 man game to avoid having to use North America match making.

Even if we start a “Private Match” we only have the option of using North America and Europe as well.

So the Asian and Australian community literally can’t do any form of ranked 5v5 any more, not even privately organised scrims with friends. We have public servers, and 240-280ms matchmaking.

(SirSwag) #31

I’m from Australia and have never been able to find a ranked match anyway. I’ve accepted that I’ll probably never be able to play a fair ranked match in the future or get those shiny ranked trinkets. It really sucks, but by the numbers, I just don’t think Australia and Asia have the players to support a thriving competitive scene. Sure we have plenty of people of public matches, but we just don’t have that player support on the Ranked side of things. Things will get better I’m sure. The game will grow and eventually get out of Beta. Maybe then we can get our Ranked matches back. But for now I can’t see them reversing this decision.

(SzGamer227) #32
We will be disabling the AU and Asia regions in Ranked play for the time being, to avoid overly long queue times due to the smaller player counts in these regions.
http://nxcache.nexon.net/umbraco/4172/playercountauasia.jpg
Well, compared to the majestic hill of US ranked play and the giant fucking mountain that Europe’s is, the peaks of Australian and Asian competitive play dip below even the lowest points of the more active regions. I can only imagine what that meant for matchmaking times there…

(bontsa) #33

While yes, the graphs does indicate quite a humongous difference in ranked playercounts in each sector, it is after all done prior the update (well, daa-a?) so Nexon (since they offer the servers, not SD) really didn’t well take into account rising interest, or stuck with their estimation that AUS/ASIA wouldn’t still have enough players. What puzzles me though why outright remove them and not simply merge them for first attempt instead.

(Merci1ess) #34

Power of the majority. It’s unfair.

(B_Montiel) #35

They really should stop sorting things and do not give actual numbers. Comparing a region to another and say “they don’t have enough players” is quite meaningless. If the 100% EU peak represents N, depending the scale of N, the peak in AUS/ASIA could still represent something which could be enough. That’s bad communication to us and I think they also tricked themselves.

(Borganism) #36

There were three reasons why I didn’t play ranked as an Aussie.

The hacker rampage that went on before NGS came out. That got solved.

The 5 man team stomp issue that I always heard about (but never got to experience). That is now solved.

The fact I could never find a game. That might have been solved by stopping point 2, but now I’ll not get a chance to find out.

I’m sure it was killed for monetary reasons. Why pay for servers to be online when they rarely get used. The misleading graph is just a justification. There is no way we can have the same active population that the EU has when as a region, Aus and NZ have 28 million people, and the EU has 742 million. That doesn’t mean we should be forgotten.

@Amerika @RazielWarmonic believe me this isn’t just a complaint thread, and I’m not just trying to gain some attention, I am just genuinely concerned about why this was done. Can you tag anyone who would be able to give a response? All I want to know is whether or not this was temporary or permanent, because I can tell you now if it’s permanent myself and many others will drop this game and never touch it again. Been chatting with everyone on my friends list and there is a huge uproar about this - people over this way are pissed. Unfortunately many of them don’t use these forums so you’re not going to see a complaint from the majority of people.

They’ve taken away all ranked servers for us, and due to the new system we’re very limited in what we can do. We can’t even make private lobbies any more, because they force us to play on 280ms servers now too. Want to play with your friends? Tough. I guess we can join public servers and just move around / stack the players. Want to play as a team of 5? Tough. We can’t do a thing. We have public servers, to2 250ms+ matchmaking and nothing more. So basically we only have pub servers. This is a huge problem for the future of the game. There is no fun left in these changes. People who have teams can’t even practice any more, and for the likes of upcoming competitions ran by dbnation and 4sg what do we do? We can’t even make private servers to play on or practice.

Disabling Asia/Australia ranked queues is NOT permanent. It is a temporary measure like disabling 5 man queues. It’ll come back in the future!

However, what do you mean you can’t make private servers to play or practice on? You mean like DBNation? Or the private match function?

(doxjq) #39

Well, that’s something at least. Thanks for letting me know.

Nah, I just meant we can’t make private lobbies and play on Aus or Asia. It only gives us the option to use North America and Europe like ranked servers.

So we are currently limited to public servers only, as North America and Europe are unplayable for us.

Hmmm… I’ll look into this. I believe this should not be the case and is a bug.
