August 17th Dev Stream Round-Up

(Faraleth) #1

News:

  • Dome information – Theme of rainy weather and dark environment. (Screenshots can be found: http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/16450/dome-wip-screenshots)
  • The next update will be similar to the “Fine Tuning” update. There is lots of bug fixes and balancing tweaks to the game. Shoe said he is very excited about the update… No specific information of what is coming though.
  • Question: Will the next merc be Phoenix or Turtle? – “I can’t tell you which one it will be! Will it even be one of those two? (he turns to guest, and says) If we tell them which of the two it will be, they will be like ‘I know which merc it is’, so…” Possible heavy hinting towards being one of the two.
  • “The next update after this one, we might see a new merc… maybe.” – So, possibly around the 25th-27th we will see a new merc. (Note: This is NOT finalised or completely confirmed)
  • Creation of SDK will come AFTER the game is out of beta. Reasoning behind this is that development on such a feature will require all time and resources, so the game MUST be in a suitable state to not change much for a few months, before this is worked on.
  • Fletcher is still being worked on… Soon. :c
  • There will be MORE skins coming in future! (Like the Obsidian founder ones – note: They won’t be repeating the founder ones though)
  • “Lots of awesome things are coming in the next update. I can say that. There will be lots of AWEsome things, in the next update.” – Why the emphasis? Hmm…
  • Specifics of the next update were discussed today (August 17th).
  • Question: Any idea on when we can expect a new anti-cheat, or an anti-cheat update? – “Keep an eye out.” Grrr… nothing confirmed. Again. :c

Possible changes/updates:

  • Red-Eye bug (Where IR goggles do not work at the start of the match) will be fixed in the next patch!
  • Optimisation is being worked on thoroughly and more optimisation will be coming in the near future.
  • There will be ways in the future for you to do things with your “useless” cobalt cards. So fear not!
  • Question: Will there be Steam trading? – Yes, but not in the “near” future. It is a definite feature for the future though.
  • Questiom: Will we ever be able to trade up Alienware cards? – No, they were a specific giveaway for specific mercs.
  • There are NO plans to alter aim-punch further, as of now. (This was later contradicted when someone re-asked and Shoe replied “Wait for the patch notes.”)
  • Question: Is there any chance of changing the way you charge up Kira’s laser? – “The way it works is designed to balance it out, as it is a VERY strong ability.” There was no word of any changes.
  • Question: What does “lock on” do on Fletcher? – It makes his sticky bombs blow up faster. (Didn’t actually know this… NICE!)
  • Question: Any chance to buff the FEL-IX for Vassili? – “There is a possibility.” Nothing confirmed, but… possible buff, maybe. :stuck_out_tongue:

Extra info:

  • Guest: Judge D – Environment Artist
  • Said he would like to see more indoors maps (Please note, this is JUST his thoughts, there is nothing confirmed).
  • Today we learned, Shoe has a “0 to excited” scale for excitement. Ok, Shoe…
  • QA tester is the guest on the next stream!

Enjoy! Until next time… #roundup

It does what?!?! Unsure if devs trolling or not.

(XavienX) #6

I <3 for dis, no homo.
Oh sh*t, btw still RIP PHANTOM. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED.

(watsyurdeal) #7

YAY! Thanks man

I’m excited for the next patch though, hopefully we’ll see some Phantom tweaks.

(DMaster2) #8

Possible FEL-IX buff? That would be a dream come true.
Noob question, what is SDK?

@cannyEdition An SDK is a software development kit. Basically, a kit designed to allow users to create their own maps and content - in this context ^.^ But, as stated, that will be a long time in development, if it were ever to come out :c

(Fap Fap Master) #10

Lock on gets outclassed by quickdraw.

(JesseKomm) #11

I feel as though if the new merc is of one of the two presented in the original post(Pheonix or Turtle) that is it likely going to be Pheonix, as far as I’m aware Turtle is still heavily in development and I think Pheonix will have had much more testing put into him by now.

This has been a great insight as to what we can expect to see soon, while not terribly vague it is also not completely clear… which I think is good in the respect that we gain enthusiasm and excitement for the update based on how our imagination fills the gaps of information.

This. He got like not even a week before getting slammed by nerfs for the sake of quieting noobs. :c

(libidoknievel) #13

Great round up man, keep up the good work!

(_Sniff_) #14

Shoe wrote down and said he’d give to the devs that lock-on does not work for Fletcher.

(Faraleth) #15

@libidoknievel Heh, thank you, sir? x3

(Faraleth) #16

@Sniff Whoops, forgot to mention that here! I mentioned on Reddit that you informed him that it didn’t work, and that it would be fixed. Will quote you up top on here too :3

(libidoknievel) #17

with regards to the SDK, could people not use the UDK to create content for the game? as long as its UE3 UDK it should work right? or would it be a case of lack of models/assets etc?

(Faraleth) #18

@libidoknievel In theory, yes, but… We would need all the packages of the existing models and setups to allow the maps to work properly - else we would have to either:

A. Recreate all existing mechanics within the maps themselves (such as objective capturing and EV transport, etc.)

B. Simply create blank maps, without any objective/mechanics.

This is where the SDK comes in handy. So we would have access to things like the turrets, objects like the EV and carry objectives, generators for secondary objectives, etc. All the things like that would need to be baked into the map for usage in the game - else they would be rendered useless ^.^

I see what you are saying though, and you are definitely not wrong. But from a practical stand-point, unless Splash Damage made the package for UDK open-source (which no sane developer would ever do xD) then we will have to wait for an SDK :c

(libidoknievel) #19

@Faraleth All i will say is some people would appreciate a team deathmatch mode (not me though)

EDIT: if unclear that was a reference to point B

(Faraleth) #20

@libidoknievel -ahem-
