Attack/Defense switching maps

I have seen a lot of suggestions for CTF/TDM gametypes, hell even FFA which I gotta say do not fit in Brink at all. TF2 style baserace, hell yeah could be fun with if someone decides to do it with an SDK.

But what I want to suggest is something entirely different. I remeber those Quake Wars days where most people always wanted to attack because it was more fun. Everyone was just looking at the limbo screen until someone joined the defense side so they could quickly join the attacking team.
I am not seeing this happening in Brink as of now but I think it will come to that. In order to change that a little bit I am proposing to create some maps which feature attacking and defending (not at the same time) for both teams. For example: Resistance want to get hold of some precious data or some device so first they need to blow something up to get there. After that they have to sit it out and guard the obj until a boat comes and gets them while Security now have to stop them and blow up the device or hack/delete the data so that Resistance cant get their hand on it.

So basically attack and defense is going to switch between the obj which might make for a more fun game, what do you thinK?

Or make the default game mode StopWatch?

Yeah true, but most people just play the “campaign” missions as was the way on most public servers in ET:QW.

I mean the maps I am suggesting wont be suitable for competetive clan matches but for public servers I think it could be fun.

I very well remember this “plague” of people only wanting to attack. Although, I don’t put it on “fun”, but on fear of “stress”.

Indeed, on offense, if you pause to take a pee or a soda or a cig, for example, when you come back, at worst iit is status quo.
In defense, if you go take a cig, when you come back the enemy could very well have beaten 1 or 2 objectives.

Defense was more stressful, because you have to HOLD. But it was still fun, imo. It’s just that many preferred to have the offense side so you have more margin to try new things : if it fails, you only loose some time, not a whole objective.

This part aside, I agree that switching / mixing team roles could be an excellent and logical addition to the team-based gameplay of SD games.
It has been said in the forums already, but for example, why not both “Offense” ? (race for same objectives), or both “Defense” ? (maybe trickier to implement, I must admit).

Something like TF like baserace could work but it is essentially defend/attack at the same time. “Defend” for both teams, and I put that in quote, would be something like capture-and-hold where you have to capture an area and then hold it for as long as possible … I don’t think thats a good idea in Brink.
As for the both on Offence it could be something like:
Resistance: Download the data.
Security: Hack/Delete the data.
This might work out but I think gameplaywise it would be more of an attack/defend at the same time obj.
