******ati fps fix*******

(TheMap) #1

This is a temporary fix until ATI can sort there drivers. For most of you having issues with your FPS with ati cards the issue is the shadows. The options allowed ingame do not let you turn off shadows. ATI is notorious for having shadow issues. So the only work around is to disable them from console.

In order to turn on ingame tilde console goto your steam library and find brink. Right click and choose properties. The on the General tab select SET LAUNCH OPTIONS and add this.

+com_allowconsole 1

Start up brink and open the console with tilde key, left of number 1 key on the top of your keyboard.

Type this
r_shadows 0

Enjoy

Edited its r_shadows 0

This doesn’t fix anything, you posted this crap on the steam forum too and I am beginning to doubt you even have an ati card.

I don’t know if you are trying to help people or if you just want to help cover up the issue by posting a ‘fix’

There is serious driver issues with how the game works on ATI, it is not the shadow renderer it is something far bigger

Stop labeling this a “fix” because it doesnt do anything but turn off shadows and obviously increase your average fps as a result as it would on any system.

Relax hailey, it works but I understand why you’re nitpicking it being called a fix because the issue runs deeper. It’s more of a “workaround” than a “fix” and doing so makes the game playable for many of us until the rest can be sorted out. At least he called it “temporary”

As proof, here’s my post about what it did for me:
These are some screenshots to show my ~20+ FPS gain with r_shadows 0. For anyone that tries it and notices no improvement, be sure you’re in an actual game. Just loading a challenge only showed a 2-3FPS boost all alone but in multiplayer, especially in the open, it’s a huge increase.

Conditions: 16 Player full MP server, outdoors, FRAPS for FPS.
System: E8400 Dual Core/4GB/Win7/ATI Radeon 4850 1GB

r_shadows 1 (default) = 27 FPS

r_shadows 0 = 50 FPS (very playable, jumps to 70+ indoors)

Your mileage may vary and of course the game looks a bit worse, but use this as a temporary fix until it’s addressed.
